Early in the campaign, though I love Joe Biden, I was not big on him as a candidate for President.
I was wrong.
He is exactly what we need now. He is calm, mature and experienced. He is going about things without causing any new controversies.
He was the right man for the job at this time.
I was mistaken. Actually an elderly great aunt taught me to say mistaken, not wrong, to others, that it was more polite.
He is the perfect anitdote (with Kamala) to how things are.

(18,672 posts)Even my Bernie loving sis says Biden was absolutely perfect for this time and that is huge! And we have Kamala, so it's a win-win! Listening to President Biden speak takes my anxiety from an 11 down to a 1. He is very calming. Meditation and anti-anxiety meds could not do what listening to Biden does for me.

Good for us!

(14,307 posts)Its not easy to say you were mistaken. Thank you for helping elect Biden.
Im thinking Biden is just about the only one of our candidates who could have won the rust belt and thus the presidency. I could be wrong. But Im glad to have a president-elect who knows how everything should work, given Trumps current obstruction of the transition.

(471 posts)... will be able to 'hit the ground running'...
... we won't have to be concerned will get broadsided by GOP foolishness ... (he's had 8 yrs of it)
... wouldn't be overwhelmed by the responsibilities of the office ...
... doesn't have to 'introduce' himself to the world leaders ...
... understands the mystic operations of the Senate ... (and lack there of)
... besides, he's Joe -- with a reputation of trying, sometimes getting it wrong; but goes back and fixes it when he does ...
He, with Jill and the duo of Kamala and Doug --- what's there not to like????

(1,654 posts)You won't find a Republican politician apologizing for anything, especially a Trumpite, but Joe can do it and be gracious about it.

(42,282 posts)Afraid Biden wasn't up to the task. I was wrong, too. His easy-going style led others to underestimate him, but I believe you are right about him be exactly what we need at this time.

I was for Kamala at the very first.. then for Biden when he did his Launch Vid on April 25, 2019... Now we have both of them.

(884 posts)My ideal ticket would probably have been Warren/Sanders, in terms of their policy agendas aligning with my own ideals, but Biden was nonetheless my pick from the very beginning of the campaign, simply because of the experience/readiness factor, and because I expected he'd have a far better chance of gaining the needed support from independents and Republicans who couldn't stomach voting for tRump.
I knew that his position in the Obama administration would be used against him, but President (with a capital P) Obama's regard for him carries a great deal of weight with me. And no surprise at all, he was right!

(244 posts)We needed him now. We needed someone as a fixer that could appeal to some moderate Republicans that would cross over - which they did. He was the perfect rational voice that will bring us back to something that resembles normal by working with both sides of the aisle and help to rid the country of this not normal that the last four years have been - if that makes sense. We all know that hes likely to be a one term president. Thats ok. Hell will bring us back to normal. The real fight starts in four years I fear.

(33,342 posts)My first pick was Kamala Harris, because she's so tough and smart, then I picked Elizabeth Warren, because she knows the root problem of wealth disparity inside and out, and then along came James Clyburn and the groundswell of support that responded to his call. It was only after that primary that I was able to begin to recognize more of what Joe Biden is bringing to us all, beyond his years of experience.

(8,445 posts)As much as some people rail against "career politicians", we really don't need a novice as our leader. OrangeLoser told us he was going to run the country as a business. What we need is for the country to be run as a COUNTRY, and President Biden knows how to do that.
BumRushDaShow
(128,917 posts)he has near irreparable damage to start fixing although it's heartening that the rest of the world's leaders at least "get it" when it came to his "predecessor" and the insanity.
And one of my biggest pet peeves having been a (now-retired) federal worker for 30+ years is that you CAN'T run the government "like a business". Yes you can apply certain principles and practices to certain aspects of the functions, but the goal of "business" is to "make a profit" for that business' goods and services, but "government" is NOT a "for-profit" entity.

(31,516 posts)I realized that he had the best chance of beating Trump. I would have liked a younger candidate, but Joe was the right man for the job this time. He has the experience and temperament we need to get the nation back on track and heal relations with our allies.
We had so many good candidates. I look forward to seeing them take the reins in the future.

(37,748 posts)Granted, I was on board with Biden since the day he announced, but every day that passes he gains more and more of my confidence.
And Harris? Well... she's gonna be a VP the likes of which we've never seen before. Her passion is outweighed only by her insight and professionalism.

(22,669 posts)We didn't have enough people in our group to have a viable quorum, so we recruited others from other groups that weren't viable either until we were. Nobody was going to, nor did, leave our Joe group for another.
Looking around in our group now in memory is kind of spooky. We had people from all walks of life, even former tRump republicans, young and old people, business types, retired, college students, etc. The other main group was nowhere near as diverse as we were. They took most of the electors, but we contributed a healthy margin for Joe Biden. It was very gratifying that we helped keep Joe's candidacy alive.
Of interest too, one of my younger siblings sent me a text later that day telling me that Biden was toast.
I still have that text message along with many I sent back to him. Never count out 'comeback Joe!'

(3,728 posts)I believed from the start he was the best candidate to go up against trump, i.e. he had the best chance of winning.
He's an old white guy, thus more difficult for the trumpsters to demonize, as he's not black, not hispanic, not female, and not gay like Buttigieg. Oh how the right wing would have howled if we had a homosexual as our nominee.
He's not far left like Warren or Sanders. Notice how the trump TV ads made it sound like Biden was on par with Warren or Sanders which he is not. Goes to show how much they were hoping it WOULD be Warren or Sanders who got the nomination.
Not everyone's cup of tea along the political spectrum, but he got the critical job of removing the malignant orange turd out of the Oval Office done.

(5,164 posts)he was the one who could win, who could beat dump.. I considered Beto for a bit but not seriously. A friend agreed. I have supported him since then even when it looked bleak. And he has been really great, fantastic speeches, really great stuff, he is such a compassionate, stable person. He is calm, intelligent, very experienced. I think he is going to be a great prez. It is a real nightmare we are dealing with. Not beating dump was the worst outcome and he and Kamala pulled it off! Thank goodness! I think they will be great together.
