I've been hearing from a couple of friends and relatives in Georgia that they're getting calls from the fraud department saying their vote has been changed. Has anyone else heard anything like this?

on edit--there IS a Georgia Dept of Fraud, Waste and Abuse, but it has nothing to do with voting

I have committed many crimes according to these callers. I have committed tax fraud, social security fraud, voter fraud and what not. They have been threatening arrest for 6 years. Yeah right!

(37,748 posts)Should be pretty easy for them to show you the number on their phone from which these alleged calls were made, and then simply call the number to see if the organization is credible. I imagine that in your sampling of "friends and relatives", at least one of them would not have an excuse why they are unable to provide it.

(33,643 posts)They're trying to get stupid people to call the authorities and complain about how 'my vote got changed!!1!'.
So much stupid in this world I can't rule out that they've succeeded at least a few times.

(260 posts)My family member is believing this. Her husband did a male and ballot and they called and said there was something suspicious and his vote was changed or something. But I'm only going off this one story so I don't have enough to confirm. That being said, this relative wouldn't just lie. They surely received a call.

Now its this?
Is it just your one relative or is it a couple of friends and relatives getting these calls?
dvduval
(260 posts)Sorry, I was just trying to be nonspecific since it involves a relative. There were multiple family members on a group chat and I believe another one also brought up something but I don't have the specifics. So the reason for the post was just to see if anyone else was hearing something similar. I'm not trying to spread a rumor

(34,059 posts)Once the secrecy sleeve is separated from the return envelope, there is nothing to connect the ballot (enclosed in the blank secrecy sleeve) to the voter.
So they would be unable to identify the voter once the voter was verified. Before the voter is verified (and the envelope separated from the secrecy sleeve), the votes are hidden.
https://www.accgov.com/DocumentCenter/View/69809/Voting-Absentee-Ballot-Fact-Sheet-August-11
Note: There is no identifying information on the secrecy sleeve - all identifying information is on the return envelope which is separted from the hidden ballot - which is placed with other ballots in the secrecy sleeve.
As for calls - I get at least one a day telling me my extended warranty (on a 2004 car) is about to expire . . .

(260 posts)Apparently he mailed in his about early, and then he got a call that someone else voted for him on election Day and it was provided. I got that information just now. I agree there is like a credibility here but I'm just wondering if there is some sort of phone operation underway in Georgia.
LisaL
(44,973 posts)Once your relative mailed his ballot and it was accepted, he voted. Nobody should have been able to vote for your relative on election day.
"If you request and return an absentee ballot, you cannot change your mind and vote in person. Once you return your absentee ballot, you have voted."
https://georgia.gov/vote-absentee-ballot
Yes, I agree with you. I'm more concerned about who might be doing the calling. I'm not sure if I can easily ask my relative at this point, but if more information becomes available it'll be easier to discuss with them. I see someone else later in this thread has mentioned this now.
