I wonder if rethugs are captivated by the story of the ship hitting an iceberg.

Gerrymandering, voter suppression that has escaped punishment, the utter stacking of the entire federal judiciary (including SCOTUS) with RWNJ's who have LIFETIME appointments, the Senate itself (soon 70% of the seats controlled by just 30% of the populace, and that 30% being whiter, older, more fundie xian, less educated, more reactionary RW than the other 70%), and then the EC as well, all as foundational structures that allow for minority (RW whites) rule, etc etc etc.

(19,948 posts)had two sisters and a brother William, already in the US, so he was to go over to his aunts and uncle. They all ended up moving out to Leiter, Wyoming, so he was probably going for good.

(64,852 posts)I don't know anyone personally who had family on the titanic.
I just couldn't resist taking a shot at what my wife & i think is the 2nd most overrated movie ever.
That bit really bugs the folks who love the movie.

(11,612 posts)I had a bad experience with it and never forgot it. My girlfriend at the time and I spending a romantic weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks (hard to believe thats even a thing I know). Returned to the Lodge of the Four Seasons (not the one Rudy made famous). She wanted to watch a movie it was the 90s early days of hotel PPV movies and we picked that thing. Didnt plan it so well was already like midnight when we started the damn thing. So we watched almost the entire opus and they are floating in icy water when the fucking video cuts out. Call front desk they said sorry sir we can only start it over from the beginning for you...
longest night of my damn life.

(64,852 posts)Besides, i liked it better when it was called Romeo & Juliet.
My wife & i were laughing out loud in the theater. We left before it ended so we'd not make other patrons angry.
We watched the last 30-40 minutes, in a few sittings, when it came on HBO.

(19,948 posts)it was never really spoken about (a big regret of mine). I haven't brought myself to watch the 1997 yet, but someone said that there was supposed to have been a ticket number seen at the start, was supposed to have been my granduncle's ticket number.

(19,948 posts)ticket from someone who couldn't go. As it turned out, my own mother said it was bought from "a student chap" and my research leads me to believe it was a cousin of his from up the country, who stayed with them for a few days before the ship was to arrive at Queenstown. I think he got sick, and couldn't go, so my great grandmother spotted the opportunity to pack him off to America and bought the ticket.
