Two days after a law firm representing Trump withdrew from litigation in AZ, a law firm representing the Trump campaign in PA resigns.
In a brief motion, lawyers said: "Plaintiffs
will be best served if Porter Wright withdraws."

(22,054 posts)The lawyers are seeing themselves getting creamed by the judges in the flimsy cases Trump is making them bring to court. They have to protect their professional reputations, after all.

(22,054 posts)Trump wouldn't foot the bills. He expects his campaign (which is broke) to pay for his shit. Or maybe the RNC.
In any event, the lawyers saw the writing on the wall and said, "No, thanks."

(22,054 posts)My post was intended to be somewhat light-hearted and not a deep thought!
Regardless, not all lawyers are rats although, like all professions, there are quite a few scoundrels.
I do wonder, though, why any self-respecting lawyer would take Trump as a client. His history is plain to see. I just don't see the rationale for representing a reprobate like Trump. I know, everyone deserves counsel. But that doesn't mean every lawyer has to take every case that comes their way.
I think the lawyers are walking away from Trump's election cases because they realize there are no serious issues to be adjudicated. The slight arguments that Trump is asking them to make, make the lawyers look foolish to the court and the public. High end law firms don't want that as their public image.
I've also read elsewhere that some of these firms are concerned that Trump's legal strategy (such as it is) is damaging to our electoral system and the lawyers don't want to be a part of that. Additionally, some firms that have women partners don't like the idea of representing a credibly accused sexual abuser.
Anyway, I like to see people moving away from Trump. They were collectively rats for following the mad man and now they're scurrying to protect themselves.
If the roles were reversed, Trump would do the same thing.

(639 posts)and yet another contractor, feels the sting of the Trump checkbook playbook.
Presidential campaigns rarely get pro bono legal services.

(9,263 posts)given history, shouldn't they have anticipated this and asked for a huge retainer?

The NYT article sets it out pretty clearly.

It is a huge deal when an attorney/firm fire a client, especially a high-profile one.

(16,616 posts)Plaintiffs and Porter Wright have reached a mutual agreement that plaintiffs will be best served if Porter Wright withdraws, the law firm said in a federal court filing.
The firms withdrawal followed an article in The New York Times on Monday described internal tensions at the firm about its work for Mr. Trumps campaign in Pennsylvania. Some employees said they were concerned that the firm was being used to undercut the integrity of the electoral process. One Porter Wright lawyer resigned in protest over the summer.
Porter Wright, based in Columbus, Ohio, has received at least $727,000 in fees from the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee, according to federal election disclosures.
It's not that they aren't getting paid. Amazingly, it seems to be a matter of conscience and reputation (at least for some within the firm).
