If you die after sending mail-in ballot, your vote counts

Today's question:

If a person votes with a mail-in ballot but dies before the ballot is tallied, does the vote still count?

You people are thinking too much again, aren't you? Take it from me, that's not healthy.

Anyway, I consulted on this matter with my new best friend and the newly appointed honorary chairperson of the Valley 101 Elections Regulations Task Force, Yvonne Reed of the Maricopa County Elections Department.

The honorary V101 post is unpaid, but she does know all about this stuff.

Here's the deal: If you are alive and kicking when you receive your early ballot and if you fill it out and sign it and mail it in before your Lord calls you home or calls you to wherever he or she has in mind -- a nice bed-and-breakfast, perhaps -- the vote counts.

I sent my ballot in today so I'm covered. Woo! If you are accident prone or think you might die this month make sure you mail in your ballot first!

I couldn't find anything regarding that issue in Arizona and didn't find it in Indiana either. LiberalFighter Oct 2012 #2

Thanks for your vote,

But I'm going to vote on Nov 6th. I'm planning on staying alive at least until then.

So possibly, as long as the voter was alive when they voted it is okay. Arizona probably would be more difficult to keep tabs on who dies during that time period.
