Can we please not use the term "Lockdown"?

I know getting people to not use the term "lockdown" is probably futile at this point, but it is an inaccurate term because we don't lock people in their houses here. The term has a bad connotation and it is used by right-wingers as a pejorative.

Some better terms could be:

stay-at-home

shelter-in-place

quarantine

home isolation

extreme social distancing

It sounds so authoritarian, and unfortunately punitive. Your suggestions are, good substitutes

It's more like Essential Activities Only

Shelter in place: Mad man with a gun on the lose...stay in your home...or toxic gas leak...stay in your home...Shelter in place has always been a very short term solution

Stay At Home...Since we can go to the grocery store and get gas in our car, it really isn't Stay At Home

Quarantine...means stay away from all other people...

And it certainly isn't Lockdown..LOL

It isn't as restrictive as the Stay At Home orders during bad weather...(Aka...don't drive unless absolutely necessary)

Though I suppose "essential" is somewhat elastic to different people.

Good points on the other terms

And we're back to where we were in March and April, though things seem to be a little less stringent. Kids are going to school, lots of people back at work.
Cafés, bars, and restaurants are closed except for delivery and take-away.
Have to carry a paper stating where you live, where you were born, D.O.B., and why you're out, along with the date and time that you left home.

This is a translation of the form (which you can put on your phone):

EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE DURING CONFINEMENT

I, the undersigned,
Ms/Mr:
Born on:

Address:
certify that my reasons to be outdoors match one of the following situations (check the box) authorised by the official measures to tackle the spread of Covid-19 as part of the state of health emergency:
1: Commuting to and from work or university and training places; business trips that can not be delayed.
2: Running necessary errands to purchase items for professional activity, or basic commodities available in the businesses allowed to provide service, order withdrawal or home deliveries
3 Consults and provision of care that cannot be done remotely or delayed; medication purchase
4 Imperative family reasons, assisting vulnerable persons, persons in a precarious situation or taking care of children. Persons with a disability and their accompanying person
