I'm never uneasy about Muslims or undocumented people or migrant families passing me on the street

No, it's pissed-off, entitled, gun-toting, professed Christian white bigots emboldened by this President who terrify me.

and every time I went to Safeway there would be a couple of assholes, dressed in camo, with an AR-15 slung over their back and a pistol strapped to their thigh.

Usually with beard, sunglasses, and a beer gut.

I have no idea WTF they were doing at the Safeway, but I always made sure to keep an eye on where they were and stayed far away from them.

Oh, and before some nut job actually shot Gabby Giffords, I went to one of her Congress on your corner events ( again, at a Safeway ) and the one thing I remember is that they arranged a line of folding chairs so people didn't have to stand in line... and every one had to move 1 chair as the line moved. Once, while we were all changing chairs... about 5 chairs behind me... a guy got up and his pistol fell out of his pocket and clattered across the floor. I'm glad it didn't have a hair trigger! And there were the usual "don't tread on me" assholes with long guns (but at least there was one cop on hand and he stood next to those guys and convinced them to stay far away from the congresswoman).

I did get to shake the hand of Arizona's next Senator!
