(22,200 posts)redrawing of district lines and / or boundaries have given the republicans a lopsided majority in the Senate and the House was finally won back in 2016.

(16,091 posts)New Hampshire of all places. Weird. They hold I think 27 states and will gerrymander the heck out of them or at least try.

(14,860 posts)... the rural/urban divide, with rural voters getting FAR more senators for their lower populations.
There's 15 states with 30 Republican senators, and their combined population is LESS than California and their 2 Democratic senators!
With that kind of advantage for rural voters, it's amazing that Democrats come close to the majority in the Senate in our current political climate.
Edit: And the same principle can happen in various state legislatures too.

(22,200 posts)the Supreme Court is one also, where by extension, this lopsided advantage extends into supreme court picks that favor the obviously tilted Senate biases towards republicans.
One that perhaps Mr. Biden can address by expanding the supreme court in size. The Senate, perhaps can be expanded to 4 per state, I don't know. It just seems wrong that 30 senators is less than the population of Calif. and its two senators.
The House of Representatives I think is reapportioned (which is why the Census is so important), but there are grossly unfair advantages that need to be fairly addressed.
