(13,436 posts)as First Lady, that I'm sure were brought to her attention by staff for fyi purposes, and it must have hurt her feelings terribly.
Biden probably knows this, and I'm guessing probably wouldn't ask her to go through that hell again.

(13,436 posts)I'm guessing that from May into October she is going to want to be enjoying her new Martha's Vineyard digs with Barack, and generally avoiding the DC scene.

something, i mean there should be something for these enormously influential people to continue doing good work.

(9,958 posts)whatever they think will help, but they also acknowledge that they gave 8 years of their lives under the most stressful conditions that have ever befallen their lives, so if they want to take time off, I don't blame them a bit.
In the not too distant future, they will likely be grandparents. At that time, they will probably be too in love to be able to do anything else.

(17,911 posts)If I had gone through all that they went through for eight years, I would probably be in hiding for the rest of my life. They did plenty for the cause during this past election, and I think they were very influential on Biden's win. Let them get involved in their own way.

(39,941 posts)are just damn clueless.
They have their own projects that they are backing/working on (and I'm sure POTUS is providing input to the Biden administration behind the scenes).
JFC, leave them alone. It is embarrassing.

(7,302 posts)Doesn't the line of succession to the Presidency eventually go through the entire cabinet? He would not qualify based on his two terms, unless the succession could just skip over him (but if he were the last in line, that wouldn't work)....
Totally Tunsie
(12,013 posts)the succession would just skip over him to the next in line.
Others who have held cabinet positions were ineligible to become president, notably Henry Kissinger, who served as Secretary of State. He is German-born and a naturalized citizen, not native-born as required.
ETA: It would have to be a very, very bad year to get down to the last cabinet member in line. That would be the 18th (!) successor.

(53,394 posts)Consider McConnell's wife Elaine Chao, who occasionally shows up in Republican cabinets. She is foreign born so can't be president, but there's no problem with her as a cabinet secretary.

(46,227 posts)Obama is not going to be a cabinet secretary. He's not going to be an ambassador. He's not going to be a Supreme Court justice. You can take that to the bank.

the fact that President Obama is just a phone call away, I'm sure President Biden will be calling him often to get his thoughts, advice, etc.
Makes me smile.
