73 million people

73 million people. That is how many people lived through the same 4 years we all lived through and decided they wanted more of it.
I cannot wrap my mind around that. Cannot get past it. Cannot even begin to understand it.
Its absolutely horrifying. The country that I thought I lived in is not the country I thought it was. The country, by a clear majority, that says they support gay marriage. Supports women's reproductive healthcare choices. That supports the ACA. That believes our nation's strength is positive relationships with our allies and friends arourd the world. That is the same country that gave the majority of state legislatures to Republicans. That 73 million people voted to have trump run our nation for another 4 years.
That is absolutely horrifying.

Yes, we won presidency. Yes, we maintained control of the House, barely. Yes, we may yet win control of the Senate, barely.

Those things are great. Worth celebrating. Unfortunately, the truth is that the deeper you go into these results, the darker and more uncomfortable things start to become.

The majority of state legislatures now get to gerrymander the hell out of districts we will be stuck with for 10 years.
In 2022, if we loss 3 more state legislatures, Republicans can call a Constitutional Convention and rewrite the rules at will and there is little we can do to stop them.

I truly hope I'm wrong, I hope the nation I see in front of me is not the nation it seems. I also know that 73 million people voted for trump after living the same 4 years I did.

Their influence is on life support, and efforts to artificially boost it is unsustainable in the long run.

When I do ..I do exactly what you wrote...remind myself of the good. They do not have the momentum..WE DO! You can only stand in the way of progress for so long and then you finally get the boot

There’s quite a bit of undiagnosed/untreated mental illness in the general populous. Ranging anywhere from paranoia and neuroses and upward. These folks are even more susceptible to the psych paranoia BS that is peddled by the far right wing news sites.

Useful idiots, all of them, and unshakeable in their phobias.

I honestly wish I knew the path forward here, because I don’t really see one.

6. As far as calling for a constitutional convention, they been on the cusp, not on the cusp of that

For years now.

Besides those amendments would have to be passed by a voting majority. That will never happen ...it’s too extreme. We still largely outnumber them

Not a racist bone in my body, but, I truly believe that having Kamala Harris as VP pick scared the shit out of a bunch of people. They just do not want to see the possibility of another black President. Unfortunately I think those same people see Joe Biden as old and his health could turn quickly and they think Kamala will become President, and they can't or don't want that. The fact she is a woman, God forbid, she might be worse than Hillary ! Now, I'll repeat, *I* do NOT feel this way. I marched for womens rights with Gloria Steinem, I staffed at a Planned Parenthood.I was a manager at a few retail and food related jobs. I just know people, and people just do not like women bosses, and especially black women bosses. Out of those 73 Million folks that voted for asshole I'm estimating 40% thought that having that asshole as Pres was better than the chance of having a black woman even if she has a lil South Asian thrown in.
I for one, am excited at the possibilities Biden/Harris have in store for us ! Thank you Lord for giving us a chance to save America and for getting rid of that pig Trump !
