My Democratic friends think Biden is going to heal everything and unify everyone, said Jeanie Smith, who attends the more conservative Spring Street Gospel Church in Mason, which is about 100 miles west of Austin. They are deceived.
Now you want healing, she added. Now you want to come together. You have not earned it.
Were willing to accept the results, as long as its fair and done correctly and certified correctly, said Sherrie Strong, another supporter of the presidents. She, like others, took Mr. Trumps position that it was strange that he had been leading in numerous places because of in-person votes on Election Day, only to be overtaken once mail-in ballots were counted on election night and over the days that followed. (The delay in counting mail-in ballots in several states was because of restrictions imposed by Republican state legislatures.)
That is the hard reality Mr. Biden is facing, even after winning a race in which he secured a larger share of the popular vote than any challenger since 1932. Towering before him is a wall of Republican resistance, starting with Mr. Trumps refusal to concede, extending to G.O.P. lawmakers reluctance to acknowledge his victory and stretching, perhaps most significantly for American politics in the long term, to ordinary voters who steadfastly deny the elections outcome. (end quotes)
The only way Democrats can "earn" a truce is to give republicans EVERYTHING they want. Republicans keep telling us they'd rather burn the country down than respect a two-party system. What, exactly, does it take for us to finally believe them?

(1,159 posts)That's what's at the core of all the bs about a stolen election. Leave their base inflamed enough to continue to vote against their own interests, abuse the system to create gridlock so long as Democrats are in office, then blame Democrats for the gridlock.

I'm trying to have 5 minutes of optimism here, guess that's not allowed any more.

(8,166 posts)I'm still getting 50-100 political emails a day and the temperature hasn't gone down much. I suspect it'll be quiet in a couple of months, perhaps it's like stopping a freight train, it's going to take a lot of track!

I wonder if their was a national vote on this, what the results would be.
They are convinced that blue states are feeding off red state economies and that blue states are essentially enclaves of communism.

(1,159 posts)The harsh reality is that Trump's supporters and enablers are just as deplorable as he is, and those are the people who intend to show up at the table if and when Democrats extend our hand and olive branches to them.
Efilroft Sul
(3,573 posts)So if we extend our hand to them (I won't), they'll slap it away out of spite and then make demands.
The enemy within needs to surrender unconditionally, meaning they must renounce Trump and Trumpism, ask for forgiveness, and work tirelessly for the common good. Until that moment comes, they are NOT Americans. They are not our fellow citizens.
