Its about an man in the army, just barely getting by, and he claimed he saw a family in Walmart buying $800 worth of groceries with an EBT card and driving a new Genesis car.
I dont believe this story. I dont think anybody gets anything like that much in food stamps.
Your thoughts?

I stopped reading this because it's one of those Click Next 100 Times articles that you suffer through to drive their site view statsistics.
It could have been written on one page in 10 paragraphs, but painfully forces you to keep clicking to the next page.

So it's one guy dependent on the government complaining about someone else getting 'free' government aid.

I call BS.

(6,854 posts)Which means youre standing right behind them in line. Nevertheless your purchases were rung up so fast that you were out the front door in time to see the persons car? They must have been both greedy AND slow as hell in loading up their car. (If you had one or two items you would have been in the fast lane, not behind an 800.00 purchase.)
I dont remember ever spending more than 500.00 at a grocery store and that was shopping for big Christmas parties at Costco.
I dont know how much goes on an EBT card per one family.
Finally, how do we know the family driving a genesis didnt all lose their jobs in COVID? Maybe they qualify for food stamps and theyre about to lose their car as well or maybe they have no car and borrowed a friends car or grandmas car?
This country is full of a-holes (and not the ones on food stamps)

(12,652 posts)Anyway, all state benefits get loaded the statevissued EBT card, unemployment, SNAP, and maybe Social Security and VA disability on a federally issued card.
So, the situation is more likely that Mom or Dad on SSI stays with "the kids" (or vice versa in this time of COVID) and they all went to Walmart together in a new car bought with whichever family member was not receiving benefits.
There are quite a few people living in an economic "desert" where "free" banking services are limited to those with good credit, the ability to keep a $1000 balance at all times, and/or direct deposit. So the EBT card is the only way they can access their benefits other than by state issued coupons.

(13,989 posts)but even if true , this says nothing about the alleged EBT user. Its theoretically possible to get $800 if you have lets say, 8 kids. Also this person may have been left a nice car in a will or had it given to them by a relative. That said, the story is likely false.

(6,797 posts)I doubt it. When I get just a few things it usually ends up $100 or more. When I was younger I had to be on welfare for a minute. I didn't get enough food stamps to fed two of us much less a whole family. And being as the welfare office was all the way across town I used my parents car because I didn't have one.

(13,989 posts)I'm on food stamps currently. I have advanced cystic fibrosis and my only income is SSDI $976. I normally get $17 in food stamps monthly. I'm often low on food by the end of the month. Luckily, our governor authorized all people to get the maximum amount per person during the pandemic so I've been getting $194 EBT monthly recently. It has been a tremendous help.

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
as I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
by the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
who made me sputter and gasp-
the thieves, the liars, the sinners,
the alcoholics, the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
was rotting away in hell,
was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
Has there been a huge mistake?
And why's everyone so quiet,
so somber? Give me a clue.'
'Hush, child, ' said He 'They're all in shock.
No one thought they'd see you.'

Oh, and the guy is likely making it up because he saw a family that he assumed MUST be on SNAP because...well, thinks they LOOK like "those kind of people".
I live among these assholes, some of whom will say, loudly that all people who aren't white are on "welfare and food stamps".
Yet another reason I want to get out of this town that seemed nice when we moved here 19 years ago.
