A tireless, selfless dynamo for our party who changed history, turned Congress around, got us the Senate and the House in 2006, and the White House, with VP Joe Biden, two years later. Howard learned how to deal with defeat in 2004 in the primaries, and learned how to deal with cruel injustice in 2009 when Rahm Emmanuel shut him out of a role in the Obama administration for having been right about the 50 State strategy in 2006.
A big Happy Birthday to a great Democrat, a good friend, and fellow Leo Kottke-style 12 string guitar player!

Way too good for Rahm Emanuel.

That was about the highest praise Helen ever had for anybody. She had a rather sharp tongue when on the record, and really let fly when she wasn't. But she thought the world of Howard. I had hoped to get the three of us (four with my brother) together again some day, but Helen's health failed before I could manage it.

(9,263 posts)path to be our nominee, The "fake" yell played over and over ended his run and allowed bush.cheney another 4 years of destroying our country. No way the elitist (on either side) were going to allow a populist to win.
Happy birthday Gov Dean

(54,268 posts)They used to laugh in public about running against Howard, but his straight talk and winning ways must have scared the living shit out of them. For someone they thought was "too liberal to win," somebody sure took some drastic measures to make sure he never got the chance to run against them.
