To anyone saying the Democratic Party didn't do well in 2020

Remember this:

1) We won the Presidency by a landslide (we're landslidin' with Joe Biden!)
2) Trump and the Reputincans have been gaslighting us for more than 4 years now.
3) The Justice Department is a complete failure and prosecuted next to no one for contempt/perjury.
4) Republicans openly flaunted the investigative powers of the US House of Representatives in 2019-2020.
5) As a result, there has been absolutely no way to get at the truth for these last 4 years.
6) Trump/Republicans could tell any lie they wanted and basically get away with it. Fox News and OANN helped propagate these lies.
7) Trump used every power as an incumbent to try to destroy Joe Biden and the Dems.
8) This included smears resulting in Trump's impeachment.
9) It also included dismantling the US Postal Service in one of the most shocking/brazen political acts.
10) It involved sending checks to US voters signed in Trump's name and with electioneering on envelopes and letters that are forbidden to somehow give the illusion that it was Trump, rather than the taxpayers, giving these people money.
11) It involved Russian interference in 2016 and 2020, and we have no idea what really happened (because of 2-10) above.

AND JOE STILL WON! AND THE Ds HELD ON TO THE HOUSE! AND WE MIGHT JUST WIN THE SENATE IF WE WORK AT IT IN GEORGIA!

Not half bad, IMHO.

1. Most of us probably underestimate the impact of those stimulus checks.

All of us realize that Trump had little to do with the $1,200 checks and that any President would have signed that legislation. But he actively tried to take all of the credit and many less-sophisticated voters probably fell for it.

3. We lost house seats

How does that happen with everything going on? It’s bad messaging and allowing them to control framing. They say Communist or lawlessness or whatever buzz word and we immediately back down like a vampire confronted with a cross. A public option for health care is very popular. Can we act like it? Legalizing marijuana is extremely popular. Can we act like it? Raising minimum wage and taxes on millionaires is popular too.

Then we should work to convince people that spending more on the military than the next 10 countries is insane and completely unnecessary and that action on climate change is important. However, If you are trying to tell me defund the police is a bad message- you are correct. So we can meet halfway on that.

5. I think we did well

considering what we were up against. It isn’t our fault that so many people were bamboozled into thinking that the Dems were socialists who were going to defund the police. The Rethugs have a far greater propaganda network than the Dems.

But overall, we didn’t do too bad. We took the presidency and increased our numbers in the Senate. And that’s no small thing.

7. Because of the hack vendors the DSCC/DCCC force our candidates to use who don't know how to message

and the top down dictates that go to our state parties, instead of empowering the people on the ground to do their thing.

8. Personally, I believe it was the lack of a second stimulus that we were blamed for...unfairly!

I also believe some of our moderate candidates were attacked with 'defund the police' and socialist memes...again unfairly. But there it is. Biden being well known survived those attacks. Although it may have affected senate races...not sure.

10. I thought only Trump considered 306 EV's to be a landslide

If it is, then what do you consider 2008, 1992, 1988, and (gasp) 1984? It was a sizable victory, but certainly not a landslide. It was our narrowest win since 1976.

With that being said, a win is a win.

In and of itself, to win is great. Under the circumstances of 2020, it is remarkable.

Neither Jimmy Carter nor Bush I did anything close as incumbents in their respective losses to their winning opponents.

That's kind the point of the OP.

14. It's an amazing win, no doubt

No argument there, but Carter and Poppy Bush were far more clobbered than Trump was this election. They were both crushed Electorally and by the PV.

I agreed fully with your op, my only disagreement was calling it a landslide. I don’t even consider Obama’s wins landslides. But there’s no point in arguing, let us all celebrate the win.
