I know he was a good prosecutor. That doesn't make him a good constitutional law attorney.

After success as a prosecutor, he wanted to climb the political ladder and did well. Mayor of NY is nothing to sneeze at. He was never going to be conservative enough to be a Republican president. After NY, he just seemed to lose interest. And the booze. Those martinis will take their toll.
