General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe myth of Trump as a stereotypical "manly man" is a textbook example of cognitive dissonance.
He has never developed callouses or, for that matter, gotten his hands dirty.
He, like all cowards, has never had the "grit" to directly confront an adversary. He fires people with tweets, not face to face. He hires attorneys to punish those who oppose or anger him and he has the ignoramus thugs at his rallies punch protestors who challenge his hateful spew.
He is so vain about his appearance that he wears lifts in his shoes, dyes what hair he has left roughly the same color as the orange makeup he apparently applies with a ping pong paddle and, he doesn't comb his hair---he has it styled.
He's never pumped gas, changed an oil filter, split firewood or shoveled snow.
And, how to say this---he is just about the "prissiest" male I've ever seen have his face photoshopped onto Stallone's younger body. (Have you ever noticed how he never fully extends his pointing finger when he waves it in the air? His other three fingers are never closed onto his palm and this makes his tiny fingers look even more stunted.)
He is afraid of bugs, doesn't like dogs and has the self-control of a spoiled two year old.
THIS is what all you pick-'em-up truck drivin', gun-totin', beer drinkin', crotch scratchin', ass grabbin' macho men consider "manly"?
Most of us consider such people shallow and superficial whether they happen to have a penis or not.

"He was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didnt want to touch him."

Once upon a time, Trump explained matter-of-factly, he was hosting a charity ball at Mar-a-Lago at which several members of the Marine Corps were in attendance, along with a host of rich people "eager to get their picture in the Palm Beach Post," as he put it. Lo and behold, at some point during the evening, an 80-year-old man"very wealthy," Trump adds, but also, "a lot of people didn't like him"fell off the stage and hit his head. Trump thought the man had died. "And you know what I did?"

(21,141 posts)He has never worked a hard day in his life. Yet these fools thinks he is a guy like them. He dyes his hair, gets pedicures and has never worried about paying a bill, or missing a meal because he lived paycheck to paycheck.
I just dont see his appeal, never have. And those cult members who adore him, he would never give them the time of day in real life and He stiffed workers for jobs they performed for him countless times. His supporters are friggin insane and so brainwashed they are mentally ill.

(7,263 posts)They remind me of Gollum - grandiose dreams of being the Ring Holder and living in a paradise where all the rotten raw fish he wants is provided to him.
They project their pitiful perception of what real power would bring them but they have no capability to imagine the Real World.

(43,350 posts)A meme stating that actor John Wayne believed in white supremacy has circulated on the Internet for several years, but has resurrected. The facts: But Wayne's quote is real; it originally appeared in a May 1971 interview with Playboy magazine in which Wayne was responding to a question about whether Angela Davis, a counter-culture activist, communist and professor, was discriminated against by those who wanted to revoke her teaching credentials:
Wayne responded: "With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. But we can't all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people."

The Playboy interview contained one other quote that is frequently shared in meme form, Snopes.com reports. The quote was in response to Playboy's question of whether Wayne felt any empathy for Native American for subordinate roles in Westerns:
"I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them, if that's what you're asking. Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves."

(6,679 posts)I married a pick em up truck drivin, (occasional) beer drinkin type that thank goodness knew how to shoot food. He certainly never scratched his privates in mixed company that I ever knew of, and the only hind end I know of that he'd grab was mine - or his own if it happened to itch. He even went through a thankfully short phase of needing a spit cup (disgusting). He came home smelling to high heavens every day of his work life.
We were poor people from eastern Kentucky that managed to get out and later made a choice to go back - before moving out again as we got older. The sorts in our bunch were pretty much required to have a Nascar driver they rooted for (as long as it wasn't Jeff Gordon) and you knew every team he liked, every trip were able to take, by looking at his T-shirts and ball caps. When I went back to college he proudly loaded up on EKU t-shirts and hats.
Demonizing the kind of people I come from goes a little close to home for my taste, and it is hard not to take that personal. And yes, I do have relatives who think nothing of cracking open a can of beer at a wedding.. but that is not the norm. I do have Trumpers in my family ... my brother in fact ... but again, that is not the norm.
Most of these are people who used to faithfully vote Democratic straight up and down the ballot. These are people that voted for Andy Beshear and Donald Trump both. If we ever want them back ... it would be best to understand why they wandered off.

Fuck them. We don't need them. They are the junkyard of history.

(12,388 posts)Rump does the same with orange, lately brown.
I cant think of another sane person who does this. Even actors on camera dont open a can of Kiwi shoe polish and smear it on their face before doing a scene. I suppose Batmans joker, but he wasnt appearing in the State of the Union.
Dont 1/3 of this nation have eyes and some curiosity as to why a person does this? Think about it. Its not normal. A touch of powder perhaps to take away shine from lights, or even at most, some concealer for zits or under eye shadows. But not a full hiding-in-Willy-Wonka-chocolate-factory camouflage! Thats just plainly bonkers.
