This is not realistic, McConnell was just re-elected as party leader by acclamation.

he's a prime example of the failure of the U.S. Justice System. I don't understand why he's not
in prison.

Romney is just not popular enough in the caucus to be credible challenger, there is nothing to suggest he has any major objection to McConnells leadership to begin with.
