(9,600 posts)1. Mueller prosecutor explains why Biden will be forced to indict Trump whether he wants to or not
Former senior prosecutor for special counsel Robert Mueller, Andrew Weissmann, explained to MSNBCs Ali Velshi that Trumps situation is very different from any other president in history.
Were going to be, as of January 20th, 2021, in the situation where we no longer are talking about indicting the president but, rather, a former president, somebody who is a civilian, Weissmann explained. And the questions going to be: Does the rule of law apply to that person? And its very hard to see an argument if it is shown, for instance, that in the Manhattan District Attorneys office that the president has committed tens of millions of dollars of tax fraud or bank fraud or both. Any other person would normally be prosecuted, then it really shouldnt be the case that just because he becomes president, that he shouldnt have the day in court where a jury decides whether or not he committed those crimes prior to becoming president.

... nor can he be "forced" to do so.
It is up to Biden's AG and the DOJ to deal with Trump et al, according to the law and as they see fit.

Its up to DOJ to independently determine who to investigate/prosecute. The White House should not be directing it, or even be involved in it. This was one of the travesties of the last four years. We cannot be hypocrites. Let justice be pursued independently as its always been in this country.
