Hitler did not surrender the field in St. Petersburg (Leningrad at the time) but stupidly instructed the army to hold the city (which it did for a while longer b/f the commanding general surrendered against Hitler's orders). In any case, it was a huge defeat for the Wehrmacht and one of the major turning points of the war.

There is probably a good analogy there to Trump and his legal "team".

What kind of story will he weave to convince them that history demands that they over-rule the voters and award Michigan's electoral votes to him?

Do they think that the "true believers" will support such a move? Do they believe that all Republicans are traitors?

His delusions are causing great harm to the nation. His enablers must pay a very heavy price for this hubris.
