(5,324 posts)that the election was stolen, courtesy of a coup and illegitimate court appointments, and our democracy has ended. CIVIL WAR. On which side would the military fall?

(12,536 posts)If the whole "rigged software" story WAS true, he'd have a point. But its not, so he doesnt.
I dont see him getting the 5 votes for whatever case they'd accept. And even if they DO take one, i dont see it overturning the election
Take the PA case; I could see them saying "The State court was outside its legal authority to change the election rules.(And i actually think the constitution agrees with this) But the votes cast under those rules were cast in good faith & should be accepted"

(7,510 posts)So the alleged nation-wide rigging is disproved.

(9,654 posts)Trump did gain about a thousand votes
A couple different sets of numbers were omitted from the spreadsheets in a couple repub counties so trump gained votes
Really shows why handcounts are important
The part that cracks me up is,this is the first time in decades Georgias machines have any paper to count
Repubs were fine with the software even with no paper at all when they were winning

(17,913 posts)and the likelihood of getting to that is extremely remote. But, if it were to occur, we probably would part ways. It would be messy, but no shooting war. Unlike 1861, we're too integrated economically and culturally for that. In my mind, it's more of a question of how to divide up the military's assets versus what side the Pentagon is on. And lots of "I'll give you the southwestern part of NY for the eastern half of PA. And on and on.
That's just a thought experiment. The likelihood of that and what might cause it are extremely remote. But it is Vladimir Putin's dream scenario. The only way he gets his gas station masquerading as a country back on top.

(4,742 posts)Pass a bill that explicitly says a State cannot receive more in Federal aid than it pays in Federal taxes. Call it the "Maker-Taker Fairness Act" or the "Balanced Tax Distribution Act" or somesuch malarkey that panders to the Right's idea that the blue states, with their welfare queens and food-stamp scammers, are the "taker" states, I really suspect they'd jump on it like flies on shit.

(8,329 posts)Many of the blue states are donor states and many of the red states are the getting states. The senate will NEVER go for it. Senator Moynihan used to publish a report, I think it was called the Fisk report annually showing how much New York donated while being attacked by people like Newt for being a welfare state.

There will be a transfer of power in January. Roberts has already said he does not want to legislate an election.

(1,328 posts)We were pissed off, but mostly sad, depressed, disappointed, and gobsmacked that a reality TV host was elected president. These clowns? Did you see the Jordan Klepper video from the MAGA march? Those people ain't right in the head, as they say here in the south. I'm reading The Cult of Trump, and that's what they are. Crazed.

(5,790 posts)However, at this point, Trump would have to prevail in multiple cases. It just doesn't seem likely, given the degrees to which his attorneys have had their asses handed to them so far. And this isn't Florida in 2000 with a few votes hanging in the balance. Kerry came closer to beating Bush in 2004 and saw it was a lost cause at this point.

On a related note.
The DoD has been slow-rolling Fat Nixon since 2017.
Remember those parades he wanted?
If DoD wanted them to happen, they would have. We have enough troops nearby (Transportation School at Ft Lee, for instance).

(10,778 posts)I think it's possible that fact could cause a few R senators to recalculate the value of continuing to support Trump's dangerous behavior, whether out of concern for the country or their own political future. I expect a power struggle in a post-Trump GOP.

yet I have awakened every day with dread in my heart because the orange menace still is able to wield power. On Nov. 3rd 2016 I, like many here and nationwide, woke with my heart in the right place. I went to bed just knowing HRC had this. Turned on my computer and my heart dropped 40,000 feet. WTF? WTH? My pets scrambling everywhere. Then the reality, we had screwed the pooch this time.
And with that being set in stone and borne out daily for the last 3 plus years, I am the opposite these days on awakening. I dread turning on my computer. Because I fear a coup will have been somehow been attained.
I don't use Twitter or Facebook, so I hope this tweet is true.
Good luck fellow patriots and com padres.

(82,849 posts)Go ahead and do whatever it takes for the transition. Let Trump try to stop you. Let him sue your agency heads. Get it into court, and force Trump to make his case for further delay. Proceed as if ascertainment has happened, because it should have happened by now. Let's find out if the administration has the belly to fight for its ruinous delay in court.

(1,910 posts)The unsung hero and not told enough story is how the Joint Chief's of Staff General said in his Veteran's Day address that the military takes a oath to the Constitution and not "tyrants or dictators". A clear message to Trump.
Look, the MSM is making money of the ratings for this shit show. Trump has zero percent chance of not leaving office, but thats a lame story. He has little financial backing, the military hates him, and he lost by a landslide.
This is nothing but a Trump money grabbing effort. He is collecting donations and will go off to hold rallies and tweet and collect as much money as he can from the rubes for his coming legal and financial issues. He can back some state level Repubs but has zero intention of getting destroyed again in 2024.
There are not going to be state legislatures flipping electors. Those people are locals, own businesses, have kids. They are not going to destroy their own states for Trump when odds are they would be overturned anyway. Trump is done. But is sure is good for CNN and MSNBC to keep the worry going.

(1,990 posts)I posted somewhere else that the only places there seems to be a "question" about who will be POTUS come 01/21/2021 is here at DU and on CNN/MSNBC. Anyone with a brain knows the moment an "attempted coup" occurs, the stock market crashes - not goes down - crashes in hours, and all hell breaking loose follows. This whole idea that they will just start a civil war, crash the economy and throw America away to keep a 73-year old, fake reality show can man in office is a joke.

(11,563 posts)But the only way to deal with it is to lance the boil. The support will peter out, once he can't do anything for them...as if he ever did. But they still hope he will, I think.
Biden taking office could unleash things we can't predict now, but it has to happen sometime, and the sooner, the better. It can't happen gradually, where power is slowly transferred from one to the other as they work together through transition.
Good lord. I could barely keep my fingers moving as they typed "work together." I had no idea they would try to take editorial control.

I will say that I hope Mr. Thomas didn't tweet that message at work or on his work computer at the time shown. He could have other problems if that was the case. Tweet what you want on your own time, and on your own device but not on Uncle's time or device.
