(7,627 posts)Its written in such a way that it could go either way. He goes on about generalities regarding the process and infer that there are doubts.
"Allegations of fraudulent behavior should be taken seriously, investigated and if proven prosecuted to the full extend of the law. "
This can be interpreted that they will delay the certification and launch bogus investigations instead of certifying within the deadline.

(3,635 posts)and should GOP canvassers vote no (and create a 2-2 deadlock) courts will force the certification unless evidence of widespread fraud is provided (there is none). The Secretary of State (D-Jocelyn Benson) is the person who oversees the election and who has the most power.
The legislature only has a role, should in the unlikely event the results be unable to be certified, ie due to 'failed election' where the outcome cannot be trusted (due to widespread fraud or negligence) - all which would have to be proven in court.

(1,602 posts)The wind is definitely turning away from Trump at this point. The courts, even with Trump judges, are increasingly refusing to hear his cases, let alone judge them. You're seeing more GOP state officials refusing to play the game, even in the face of death threats. In Michigan, I think the kidnapping attempt on Whitmer shook a lot of people and opened eyes about what kind of person Trump really is. PA and AZ are heading in the same direction.
I take this as a very hopeful sign. Politically we have different approaches towards solving problems, but there comes a point where you realize that you're dealing with a criminal whose only interest is his own. At some point very soon, Trump's going to break.

(1,321 posts)This is where I am. People are getting tired of his tantrums, his pouting, his childish refusal to accept truth. It has worked for him his whole life, make a lot of noise and wear people out and get his way, but it's not working this time. After 4 years of his nonsense, everyone has some serious Trump Fatigue and we want him out. Everyone is tired of him.

Too suspicious. He decided to fly out there to ask for COVID money? Really? That is not how it works. Legislature does not ask President. President should not be dealing with legislatures. We will see on Monday.

(4 posts)Michigan GOP House Speaker Chatfield enjoys drinks at Trump Hotel
Public skepticism that Michigan's Republican legislative leaders focused on COVID-19 assistance when they met with President Donald Trump was amplified Saturday as state House Speaker Lee Chatfield was seen socializing at the Trump Hotel in Washington and the president posted tweets that implied the election was also a topic of discussion.
Chatfield and Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey met with Trump Friday afternoon at the White House. After the meeting, the pair issued a statement that said, the meeting focused on COVID-19 assistance and that "we have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan."
But critics of the meeting were already dubious that the president did not try to persuade the lawmakers in his ongoing efforts to subvert the election results before photographs surfaced of Chatfield drinking and sitting, unmasked, with others at the Trump International Hotel. Their concerns were amplified when the lawmakers did not elaborate on what, if anything, the president asked about Michigan election results
Trump hopes the state's Republican-controlled state legislature will flip Michigan's 16 Electoral Colleges vote to him even though President-elect Joe Biden earned approximately 154,000 more votes in the state than Trump.

9.9K people are Tweeting about this
Trump tweeted twice Saturday, responding to both lawmakers with more unfounded allegations of fraud and misconduct in Michigan.
"We will show massive and unprecedented fraud!" Trump tweeted in response to Shirkey tweeting out his statement.
In response to a Chatfield tweet, Trump tweeted, "Massive voter fraud will be shown!"
