He was on CNN a few minutes ago, and he went up one side of those cowards and down the other for not coming out to publicly recognize Joe Biden as the winner of the election. Among many other things, he said Trump is defying the 10th Amendment to the Constitution at this very moment, and how all those republican senators who love to quote the Constitution all the time are saying nothing when Trump is defying it right now. He also used a great WWII analogy how we had our soldiers risking their lives and limbs in a war against fascism to preserve our democracy, and here we have all these GOP senators who are scared to death.....not because they might lose their life or one of their limbs in a war but because they are petrified that Trump or some lunatic might say bad things about them or that they might risk their re-election. He was awesome.

(21,856 posts)He also managed to say happy birthday to Biden.
He also said the media should stop covering Trump and only cover Biden after he is sworn in.

(15,178 posts)It's disgusting that merely wanting to cling to their offices, and not wanting to face a primary challenger (oh, boo, hoo!) is enough to by so much craven self-serving silence.

(852 posts)Admittedly it was years ago when he was a member of the House from Maine at the time I turned 18. His performance during the Watergate hearings was impressive, even to a political neophyte like me back then. (Plus he was a local guy. His family owned a popular bakery in Bangor, ME. Every family gathering included bulkie rolls from that bakery. They were to die for.)
He doesn't say much nowadays unfortunately, and though probably still a pubbie, his views were always what today would be considered as conservative/moderate Democratic. He was in Clinton's cabinet as Defense Secretary for some part of that admin's 8 years. Republicans of that sort have been long gone from public office (and discourse) for 20 plus years.

(42,770 posts)but have only tried french bread; rolls.
I want to know more. So curious on what makes some so soft vs hard and crusty.
It says on your link that bullies are similar to Kaiser.
When I lived in Nola there was one company that made the bread for all the poboys. Used to watch them deliver everywhere. Perfectly crusty yet soft inside.
Do you bake bread?

(852 posts)in every supermarket I've ever seen in my state. I did notice that the wiki site said it was a New England thing. Can't say as I've ever had the need to look for them elsewhere.
Most of that type of roll that I've seen from supermarket sources are blah. I did try to avoid adding the ethnic aspect, but it would not surprise me that if one could find a true Jewish family bakery one might find something similar to the bakery I remember from years ago. Maybe. The ones I remember were on a whole different level. (I think this might be it - http://www.brickovenbangorrye.com/ - the location looks about right and I seem to remember the "The Bangor Rye Bakery" name. No idea if the quality is still the same.)

(1,725 posts)When he published one of his early books, I bought it and read it and liked him even more - learned a lot about how the House and Senate work. Used to work. His mentor when he was a rookie in the House was Barbara Jordan - he loved her dearly.

(9,959 posts)He is weakening our democratic norms and guardrails to the point where breaking the law is just ignored, along with partisan misbehavior. A third of the people who voted for Trump believe the election was stolenand they will hate Democrats even more. Republicans never seem to pay a price with their voters for their lies and cheating. The next election could be just as chaotic as this one with constant lawsuits and challenges, and the one after that as Republicans solidify their redistricting plans and retake the House through gerrymandering. Donald Trump has shown them the way to take the presidency, too, by simply contesting everything and calling on all those judges McConnell put on the federal courts to change election results. In a close election, they truly could get away with stealing the election, and Republicans will try it because they have no morals and no love for democracy. They want total control.
JudyM
(29,225 posts)and may well get away with most of it. We need McConnell in jail.

(17,982 posts)Finger on the truth with that post. Everyone who stays silent is as craven as Trump is. Starting with McConnell and going right on down the line. They love what Trump is doing. This Country means nothing to them. Only unbridled power. So are the voters who keep electing them.
Anyone could watch Lindsey and see what a butt licking piece of slime he is. Yet the voted him back in.

(22,236 posts)The clip is worth watching in its entirety. One of the parts I liked the most that I forgot to mention in my post was toward the latter part of the clip where he said, come Jan 21 he wishes that the media would stop covering Trump and instead cover Joe Biden and the enormous challenge that he has. He went on to elaborate. Very cool man.
