Former Staffer Blasts Graham

BY TODD NEIKIRK November 18, 2020

... the South Carolina senator has become one of Trump’s biggest supporters. Nicholas Connors, an important staffer during Graham’s 2016 campaign ... the senator’s national director of ballot access and delegates, feels betrayed ... “I worked for him because I saw him at the time as a man of moral clout who was unafraid to speak his mind and who would be a good guide for the American people. Needless to say, I was wrong.”

... “Every politician moves and shakes in some way—it’s the nature of the beast. But for Graham, his song and dance has been more aggressive than most. It includes lies, over-the-top rhetoric, immoral conduct, and a direct assault on our democratic institutions” ...

“What several years ago was a head scratching question — What happened to Lindsey Graham? — is now pretty clear. For Graham, being a United States Senator isn’t about helping Americans or advancing principles. It’s about swimming in the pool of power and feeding off the scraps the big fish leave behind” ...

... "I've had it with the media. They come after me every day. Every time I wake up, I get an ethics complaint filed against me by some liberal group out there," Graham told the hosts of "Fox & Friends."

"It's not going to work, I'm not going to shut up, I'm not going to resign, I am going to fight. And I'm going to fight in Georgia" ...

2. Ethics experts call for Senate investigation

... Walter Shaub, a former top ethics watchdog for the federal government, Richard Painter, the chief ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush's administration, and Claire Finkelstein, the director of the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law, asked the panel to look into Graham's call last week with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and whether Graham "suggested" that Raffensperger "disenfranchise Georgia voters by not counting votes lawfully cast for the office of president.

They also asked the panel to investigate whether Graham "threatened anyone with a Senate investigation of the Georgia vote tally."

The Senate panel reviews complaints "from virtually any source," according to its guidelines, but whether it will probe Graham is uncertain. The panel, which is evenly split between three Democrats and three Republicans, acts in secrecy and often offers little more than a slap on the wrist to admonish a senator's misconduct ...

... Raffensperger told the Washington Post on Monday that Graham called him last week to ask, first, if political bias may have played a role in election officials counting ballots with mismatching signatures and, second, to find out whether the secretary had the authority to reject all mail-in ballots from counties with high rates of non-matching signatures.

Raffensperger said he interpreted this as Graham trying to get him to find ways to throw out legally cast ballots; Graham denied the allegations that he had done anything untoward as “ridiculous” ...

for a lot of the Trump administration, etc

But in this case, Graham threw a 180 after Trump ordered him to the white house one weekend......
Graham went back home and immediately became one of Trump's biggest and loudest supporters.

My guess is that Putin sent Trump Kompromat consisting of numerous 8x11 Color glossies to show Graham.

6. Judge halts move to block election results in Georgia

A federal judge tossed a lawsuit Thursday seeking to block the presidential election results in Georgia from being certified in a hearing that pitted attorneys for a firebrand supporter of President Donald Trump against a surprising tag-team of Republican and Democratic defendants.

The suit, brought by Atlanta attorney Lin Wood, sought a restraining order to halt the results’ certification and compel another hand recount of Georgia’s more-than 5 million ballots, despite the fact a hand recount was done as part of an expanded audit of the results over the past week.

U.S. District Judge Steven Grimberg dismissed the case after a nearly three-hour hearing in which he found Wood brought no real evidence or proof that he had been harmed by alleged issues with Georgia’s election system ...

7. Republicans need to decide whether they believe in democracy

A series of events played out on Tuesday that suggests the Republican Party no longer takes democracy seriously ...

We .. learned that Graham called officials in two other states, Nevada and Arizona, though we do not know the content of those calls. There is even more reason now to conduct an investigation, preserve evidence and get witnesses under oath. While this is going on, Graham has no business chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Graham knows Harris and her running mate won ... Graham, nevertheless, feels compelled to play along with Trump, mislead the public about Trump’s defeat and, according to witnesses, nose around other states to interfere in ballot counting. At the very least, he has created the appearance of gross impropriety and politicized the election process ...

This is a senator who is so lost in the miasma of Trump worship that he is willing to kick honesty and respect for elections to the side of the road. While we have no evidence that other lawmakers have gone to the lengths Graham allegedly has, his mind-set is now the rule, not the exception in his party. The vast majority of the Senate is “humoring” Trump and undermining their own base’s faith in elections (a poor strategy, I would think, when trying to turn people out for the Senate runoff races in Georgia). Most Republicans are also silent on the Trump administration’s refusal to let a transition begin, in violation of law that was enacted, in part, to prevent national security bobbles ...
