went shopping yesterday for staples.
6 can limit on tuna.
Paper products wiped out in each of 4 stores, covering a 30 mile radius.
I got lucky to get last bag of World's best cat litter (ground corn) at PetSmart.
Zero auto brake cleaner at wal-mart.
On edit: canned jellied cranberrys very hard to find here. Checked numerous stores & finally scored. Lol
Also large cans of Lipton ice tea mix. Nowhere to be found.
I've read canned goods & cheese are expected to be in short supply soon, so if you are in need it might be good to get some.

(38,958 posts)the auto brake cleaner is interesting. Wonder why that would be out of stock?

(57,073 posts)Everything was fine until this week.

Oh canned jellied cranberry sauce was hard to find. Most stores sold out.

(1,089 posts)Paper towels are in shorter supply than T. P. Canned goods are still okay.

(17,984 posts)But when DeWine put a curfew on Krogers was packed with overflowing baskets and a crowd at 8 in the morning. Of course it is the week before Thanksgiving.

(57,073 posts)I went at 9 AM yesterday. Packed.

(65,173 posts)The other day at Aldi, all the paper towels were out. Found some last time at Costco and thats lasted a while. Still 2 rolls left.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)3 different Aldis, a Kroger & a Wal-Mart. Nada.
Might be time to grab some, if you can.

(261 posts)We went shopping this morning. There seemed to be a good supply of everything, although I did not check the toilet paper section. Our biggest problem was the lack of small turkeys, so we now have a 23-pound turkey for 2 people.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Small turkeys are usually hard to find, in my experience.
Maybe you can freeze some?
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,849 posts)I started looking for a small turkey earlier this week and found a ten pounder pretty much right away. I was prepared to keep on looking, and settle for a turkey breast if I couldn't find a small enough whole one.
I'll be doing a dinner for one.
I probably need more wine.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)I'm contemplating a turkey breast instead off a whole bird this time.
Last Christmas the timer on my oven stuck (wide open) & bird was incinerated by the time I realized it. So I ended up at a really yummy Chinese buffet. That's not an option this year, though.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,849 posts)it's more flavorful to begin with, I can bake the stuffing inside it, and the drippings make a much better gravy.
Some years back the stores in my area were all out of the disposable aluminum pans to bake a turkey in, and I wound up purchasing an actual heavy-duty metal roasting pan with a similarly heavy-duty rack. Best seventy bucks I've ever spent. Because the metal keeps the heat in far better than aluminum does, the turkey bakes up faster and better.

(58,785 posts)Now, back in the days when I stuffed turkeys that size I'd have to get up in the small hours to finish and get it in the oven. I was definitely a lot more energetic when I was young, but smarts not so sure. How on earth did it take me 20 years to discover two 12-14 pound turkeys?
Enjoy!

(15,088 posts)...our Whole Foods was out of tofu.

(1,089 posts)Wegman's was the only one with tofu and paper products. Their supply chain is pretty good.

(3,625 posts)Years ago I had a cubicle mate that would bring tuna for lunch damn near every day, and eat it with hot sauce. Fortunately for us both he was moved before I formulated a proper method to murder him
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Well, I occasionally make tuna salad or casserole, but I usually buy a case of 48 cans every couple of months to share with homeless feral kitties in the neighborhood. I like for them to know if they come hungry, they will get a nice meal, especially in cooler / rainy weather.
Couldn't get it done yesterday, though.
Tuna and hot sauce?
Dagstead Bumwood
(3,625 posts)He kept adding more sauce, and I think he had burned out his taste buds and needed to increase his intake for the same "high."
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)That really sounds gross. Maybe he was trying to kill his taste buds cuz he was sick of tuna?

(3,466 posts)No shortages whatsoever. You are limited to how much TP and other paper products you can buy but the shelves were full.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Well, in this (idiotic) area, they have difficulty ordering and stocking shelves anyway, regardless of pandemic. And much of it is management directives.
Once the roads here broke a "spring bolt" - big heavy bolt with a spring around it which supports car exhaust. I'm no expert, but to the best of my knowledge, they are usually used in pairs. So off I went to buy a pair, but was consistently told "we are only allowed to stock one." I was like, "You're joking right?" Bovine stares, no offense to the bovine neighbors.
But this is worse. When they impose limits, there is usually a reason, especially at Aldi. I went to 3 Aldis yesterday and they were all that way.

(58,785 posts)one sub on pickup -- one frozen hashbrowns for another. There were 3 items I wanted unavailable on the website (many others I didn't), but since 2 of them haven't been around for a while, they're probably held up farther up the supply chain, not sold out. This is actually better than average, though won't expect it to stay that way.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Same here.
I used to always buy Aldi Supreme frozen pizza. No longer available. Tag taken off shelf. Cheese or pepperoni only.
Not a big deal, just an example of small inconveniences.
Sundae ice cream cones hardly ever available either.

(10,952 posts)both the aftermath of the late October ice storm (power loss wiped out refrigerated products in the grocery stores) and now wave 3 of COVID. It took some stores a while to restock so the stores are now looking better. I have noticed that there appears to be more people starting to stock up again. COVID has gotten so bad that more people are trying to hunker down again. Our idiotic Governor is having a big family Thanksgiving but most people I know arent.
It doesnt look like people are not going overboard but staying stocked up.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Sorry to say it reminded me of pix we see of animals & plants instantly frozen when last ice age hit.
The flowers were beautiful, though.
Glad things are getting back to normal.
Yes, hunkering down.
I bought a few cases of soup, 1 from each of 3 stores, rather than wiping one store out. But this is not put of the ordinary for me to stock up once per month since isolating in early March.
Was unhappy tuna was so pimited. I usually buy a case of 48 cans for both personal use & for homeless feral kitties in neighborhood once every couple of months.
Not sure what's up with canned goods. I've been reading there might be shortages on canned goods soon.
