Trump wants/needs a pardon and he will be too ashamed to go to Joe's inauguration. For those 2 reasons alone, I think Trump will resign and let Pence pardon him.

The guy is a straight up asshole, and committed or committing obvious crimes, but doesn't he need to be found guilty of something before a pardon can happen?

Sadly, there is nothing to pardon him of.

I am asking honestly! Someone can be pardoned before an actual charge has been dropped?

A person can be pardoned for any federal crime. For example, in September 1974, Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon for any federal crimes he may have committed while he was Presidednt, regardless of whether he was charged or not.

It's an across the board pardon for any federal crime? That's pretty powerful! Not sure I like that idea but that's how it is.

Thank you

I think 46th. I also think Trump - good riddance - will not resign but will probably not show up at the inauguration. I mean, it will be about President Biden, not him. And he might be afraid the crowd might start chanting "Lock Him Up!"

I'll be astounded, gobsmacked, and flabbergasted if Trump shows for it. There's no way his narcissistic ego would allow that, and he wouldn't be able to stand being there, watching Biden get sworn jnto the job Trump thinks he's entitled to. His head would explode.

Pence is considering a run for "Pope of the United States of Evangelicals Reformed (POUSER)" and letting off T-rump has to be weighed as to pros and cons. Becoming Prez for a moment and pardoning could help him with Trump's Cult or hurt him with reality-based Americans.

25th amendment, section 3:

Section 3.

Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

pence can do it as an acting president, without ever becoming 46. Trump, being a scumbag himself and thus suspecting scumbaggery from everyone else, will probably feel safer if he didn't have to resign. Imagine if he resigns and pence, having become 46, decides to blackmail trump by withholding a pardon. Wouldn't that be a riot? I am sure this is the first thing that runs through trump's demented mind.

first. i dont think he will chance leaving office without a pardon.

second. a self-pardon is on pretty shaky ground. even with this court. because if they allow trump to do it then it becomes every following presidents right. including biden and including harris. (fingers crossed). besides it being antithetical to our countries fundamental raison d'etre.
he might try it if insaniacs like rudy convince him but i dont think even he is that gone yet.

good point about maybe pulling a 25th Am scam so that pence could be "acting president" and execute the pardon.
that might work around trumps ego because resignation will surely be a butt burn.
