8. God, that was a horrible day.

This picture brings it all back. My wife of 19 years had just left me, and she had the kids that week. Our divorce had been finalized on August 3 that year, and I was still devastated.

I was having problems at work, my wife and kids were gone, and I was depressed. I called in sick that day. Then, I went in that morning to check the news - I forget what site I went to - MSN maybe. It was a long time ago, and it said America Under Attack.

I turned on the TV and saw the second plane go into the towers. Footage of people jumping out of windows. What a devil's choice that would be - be roasted or plummet a hundred stories down to your death.

And there was NOBODY there at home, no one to talk to.

9-11 was one of the loneliest days I have ever suffered through, but my sacrifice, of course, was nothing compared to those who died that day, and then the first responders who came down later with horrible cancers.

Damn.
