With the Senate majority up for grabs, supporters of Georgia Democrats Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock are embracing a strategy in the January runoffs that Democrats largely avoided during the general election due to the coronavirus pandemic: door-knocking.
The stakes couldnt be any higher in Georgia. After losing competitive races in Maine, Iowa, and the Carolinas, Democrats need to win both seats in the state to clinch a working majority in a 50-50 Senate with Vice Presidentelect Kamala Harris serving as a tiebreaker. Then, and only then, will they have even a chance at passing the kind of legislation needed to achieve President-elect Joe Bidens plans for tackling racial inequality, revving up the pandemic-struck economy, slashing climate pollution, and more.
Democrats are optimistic after Biden became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win Georgia since 1992. But they know its going to take a lot of work because they did not secure down-ballot victories for Ossoff and Warnock the first time around. Moreover, Republicans have historically fared better in the states runoff elections, where theres a dropoff in the number of voters who participate compared to general elections.
So a growing number of progressive organizers are masking up to register new eligible voters and motivate people to go back to the polls despite surging coronavirus infections and hospitalizations.
More than 250,000 people in the United States have died from COVID-19, hospitalizations nationwide are at an all-time high, and the next weeks will likely be brutal. And while new cases are currently not as high in Georgia as they were in July, infections are on the rise.

(804 posts)Thanks for posting. We absolutely need a great ground game to get these two seats.

(21,596 posts)I wore a tight fitting medical mask under a full coverage cloth mask. I had hand sanitizer and disposable gloves. We went in teams. I also did solo door to door literature drops.
I wear a face shield in addition to my double masks when going into the grocery store and doctors offices. I also get COVID19 tested once a week (nasal swab DNA test) as part of a large scale and ongoing asymptomatic testing program through my employer.
We dont need out of state people coming to Georgia. Out of staters can volunteer to phone bank and text from their home states.

They will be finished tonight and mailed tomorrow.
My next set of lists is set to go out between Dec 8 and Dec 12 for Early Voting.
My county chair and one of our State Executive Committee members were planning to head down to do whatever they were asked to do although they may just stay here and make phone calls
Talked to a nice lady couple of days ago, told her I was calling from Texas and she couldn't believe that I would take the time. I told her that the phone bank I was in that day had callers from all across the country. She was very moved that the rest of us care that much.
I talked to several folks who are actively campaigning, registering voters etc.
It was more fun than calling in Texas because GA registers by party so you pretty much know you have Democrats on the line. Not so easy here.
If you can help out in any way, please do so.
