(131,231 posts)by droplets or aerosols, not by contact with surfaces. If you're not wearing a mask, not maintaining social distancing, and spending time indoors in close contact with other people, especially in poorly-ventilated rooms, all the hand-washing and disinfecting of surfaces isn't going to keep you from getting covid. Some other diseases are transmitted via contaminated surfaces so you probably won't get those diseases, but covid is a different thing. Wash your hands and all that, but mostly stay away from people who are breathing.

(7,449 posts)It has been going around for months. Some of the worst of the info in the earlier notes has been removed, but it is NOT from them. (For example "foam" doesn't do anything to a virus, it's the saponification of the proteins that breaks down the molecular bonds that is doing the work. "Foam" has nothing to do with it.)
Please delete.

The virus converts cells into aggressors and multipliers
Claim: The virus is not a living organism, but a protein molecule (DNA) covered by a protective layer of lipid (fat), which, when absorbed by the cells of the ocular, nasal or buccal mucosa, changes their genetic code. (mutation) and convert them into aggressor and multiplier cells.
Several parts of this description are false, experts say.
The coronavirus arrives as an RNA molecule that comes wrapped in lipid and protein -- the first point is complete nonsense as written, Dr. Benjamin Neuman, an expert in coronaviruses who chairs the Biological Sciences department at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, told AFP by email.
There are no aggressor or multiplier cells -- not sure what that might even be referring to, he said.
Dr. Julian Leibowitz, an expert in coronaviruses who is a professor of microbial pathogenesis and immunology at Texas A&M's College of Medicine, agreed.

(77,277 posts)The entire part about hand washing is wrong. The entire part.
The mechanism is wrong, and the most important part of hand washing is to WASH THE VIRUS DOWN THE DRAIN!
Destroying a few in the process is a fine benefit.
And the denaturation descriptions are very unscientific. Johns-Hopkins didn't issue this.

(22,737 posts)but not a whole lot more. Simple, quasi life forms. Quasi because they're a life form depending on how you look at them. They replicate and mutate, sure, but that's about where the life form part ends. Somewhere between life and not life. Only a tiny fraction are pathogenic. Much of life on earth depends on them.
