Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump wants to lead the Republican Party from exile.
He wants to continue to play the President.
He wants to keep tweeting and vilifying everyone that disagrees with him. He wants to continue his destructive ways.
How long before the Republicans throw him from the train?
Perhaps he thinks it gives him some sort of cover from the law if he pretends to be the President in exile?
Republicans that are looking to run for the Presidency will not take kindly to him running the show from Mar-a- Lago or Trump Tower or Moscow, or wherever.
There will likely be a terrible blood-letting in the Republican Party?
Perhaps it has already started?

(3,609 posts)It's not far from his famous tower.
He can keep an eye on his properties.
I was thinking of a suitably named island in French Guiana.

I expect Rubio, Scott and Cruz to join them. Problem is they need Trump's acolytes follow them not Trump. Tricky shoals to navigate.

(5,510 posts)I voted against him but all he had was a libertarian in opposition. I'm a bit disappointed with the DNC for that.

(3,431 posts)That is an Infinite source of votes for the Republicans, Cash and power control by Trump. If he could just manage $15 a month reoccurring payments from this group he can build a $billion each month and with that make himself the Republican Political Boss.

(2,660 posts)Trump managed to get 73 million people to the polls. That number has to be terrifying the Republican leadership. The question is whether they came to the polls because they were Republican or because they were Trumpsters no doubt has to be ruining a lot of sleep for GOP politicians and party leadership. If Trump forms a third party, it will cement the Dems in Congress for the next decade, and no doubt Trump is taking on the GOP primarily to remind them of the fact that he's hijacked at least half if not more of the party.

(115,627 posts)That is their dilemma.
Do they gamble that Trump may be indicted or go to jail and then cut him loose?
Or do they let him run the Party in hopes of maintaining power? And keeping the Trump base?

(37,748 posts)His antics this past month and until Jan. may only be the opening credits to a cash-grab scheme parting the foolish from their money to re-gild his bedroom urinal. He's got a large enough demographic filled with blind, weak-willed, subservient sub-literates who would gladly donate $20/month for a 2 page newsletter set in Comic Sans. A political televangelist fleecing the flock for fun and profit.
Not a wholly bad thing though... could peel off a substantial bit of GOP leaving for his new Make America Stupid party. A rebranded Dixiecrat third-party after finding its original host not to its liking anymore. Totally a Roy Cohn move.

The Rethugs either pay trDumpie a king's ransom and have him sign a non-compete contract - or trDumpie hijacks the Rethug Party right out from under them and keeps his rabid base all for him self,... his entertainment,... his enjoyment,... his exploitations,... and finally his self enrichments.
trDumpie is not out to feather the Rethug Parties' nest,... he is out to make his nest soft,... comfy,... and plush for himself exclusively.
trDumpie does not give a sweet fuck about anyone else but numero uno.

(69,629 posts)strange reason, I think his POS son Don Jr. may be in the wings for 2024. I hope not, but tRump's cult will follow him off the cliff.

(38,824 posts)Even though I find him utterly repulsive, Trump clearly has charisma that this cult finds attractive. My impression is they tolerate Jr. becuase of his ties to his father - not because they worship him.
