I was watching a segment on MSNBC about Food Banks in NYC and elsewhere handing out boxes of food with small turkeys in them so others could have a Thanksgiving dinner themselves. I got out my Credit Card and made another $50 donation to my local Food Bank.
COVID will result not only in more death, but millions of our Fellow Americans are facing increased Food insecurity, job losses, evictions from their homes, increased poverty. The least we can do, as in Matthew 25, is to help those least amongst us to have some semblance of Thanks themselves. No donation is too small. Whatever we collectively do in this country will show we do care about others other than ourselves.
Peace , Love, and Happy Thanksgiving to my DU family.....

I have also been donating clothes, household goods I no longer need to groups who are asking, extra fabrics for things people can mame, etc. A good way to downsize.

And I am very mindful of people on the street who look like a $5 for a snack would mean a slightly less miserable day. I also carry trail bars for that purpose. Small gestures, but...

(42 posts)"There is no longer the shadow of an excuse for a hungry being. All the laws, all the materials and all the forces are at hand and easily available for the production of all things needed to provide food, raiment and shelter for every man, woman and child, thus putting an end to the poverty and misery, widespread and appalling, which now shock and sicken humanity and impeach our vaunted civilization. But these tools and materials and forces must be released from private ownership and control, socialized, democratized, and set in operation for the common good of all instead of the private profit of the few."
