https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/unexplained-monolith-discovered-in-rural-utah-s-red-rock-country/ar-BB1biYEn?ocid=msedgdhpOfficers from the Utah Department of Public Safety discovered a shiny metallic monolith in rural Utahs Red Rock Country on November 18 while surveying big horn sheep by helicopter. The monolith has drawn comparisons to the black monolith in Stanley Kubricks 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the helicopter crew said theres no obvious indication of who may have placed the object there.
The Utah agency published photos and videos to its website, showing the teams investigation of the strange looking object. The monolith appears to have three sides and measures roughly 10-12 feet high, according to the people who found it. The crew did note that its firmly planted into the ground and didnt appear to have been dropped from above. It would seem someone really wanted that thing to stay anchored into the rock.
One of the biologists is the one who spotted it and we just happened to fly directly over the top of it, helicopter pilot Bret Hutchings told local news station KSL-TV. He was like, Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around! And I was like, what. And hes like, Theres this thing back there weve got to go look at it!

(18,254 posts)In the days since, the helicopter crew has weighed a number of predictable explanations for the miraculous phenomenon: At first, they wondered if the structure belonged to NASA and had fallen from space; after concluding that it appears to be firmly situated in the ground, they decided it mustve been installed, perhaps by a new wave artist or a 2001: A Space Odyssey super-fan. But they havent seriously considered, at least publicly, what we are probably all thinking...

(1,264 posts)One could bring in an archaeologist and a geologist to carefully excavate the sand layers around the base. I'm sure they could reveal disturbance of the wash floor's bedding and perhaps even determine a time range for when the pillar was installed, based on sand bedding from stream flows at times that there was water in the wash. It hasn't rained there much recently.
I could well imagine some avant-garde experiential artist placing the pillar there, saying that the emotions brought up by people encountering it are part of the art experience.
In any case, someone went to quite a lot of work.

Whoever put that there is going to get decades of troll outta of it.
