have no place in a democratic nation. They profit from gaining prisoners and keeping them as long as possible, giving them incentives to make deals with courts, judges, and lawmakers.

To make a profit, they have to keep costs and wages down, too, making conditions a violation of the Bill of Rights regarding cruel and unusual treatment. They have almost no oversight and who listens to complaints of prisoners?

There are some prisoner types that it's hard for me to have sympathy for, but if we are to be a civilized society, we must protect the rights of all people and not allow prisons to impose "punishments" not given out in court sentences. We can't support a system that allows prisons to corrupt courts and legislatures for their own gain.

Many ICE facilities are run by private prisons.

And what's private about them anyway? Their "profit" comes from government contracts, aka government welfare. They are bottom feeders, preying on the innocent and guilty alike.

Georgia still leans right, despite Biden winning. My primary concern is winning, even if it means biting your tongue on what you want to get accomplished.
