Knowing that after today, his name will no longer be associated with the most disastrous event to ever take place at Gettysburg.

As the turning point for the downward spiral of the Confederacy. The folly of that charge prevented the Confederacy from invading Washington and taking over the Union.
I toured the town and Battlefield in 2011. It was an eye opening experience to know that had the Union lost under the direction of General Meade, things would have turned out differently. For what we have as a Nation, the Amendments to the US Constitution, Civil Rights, etc., would not have been possible. Or look very different as compared to the last 75 years.
