I'm furious

I've survived all kinds of awful stuff--polio, encephalitis, cancer three times, COPD leaving me with only one lung--and I've been staying inside since March.

I have fully expected to die from my lung disease, or a resurgence of cancer, or getting hit by a truck.

I never expected to have my life threatened because some asshole refused to wear a goddam mask.

I also have one functioning lung, for different reasons. I dodged colon cancer (fingers crossed) at stage 2, contained.

It's hard to breathe with a mask, but I walk through a store slowly. Grey hair helps to warn people that I'm old. I wear the mask properly and always. I am gathering one liners to tell people who don't wear a mask or wear it properly. I can't wait to see another dipshit so I can pleasantly and quietly give my opinion.

and I've heard people to tell jerks with dicknoses or chin diapers to pull the fucking thing up and yes, that's exactly the wording.

We're the #3 state as of yesterday in how fast the disease is spreading. We're seeing grocery stores closing down now, quarantined for 2 weeks until their workers get better.

Shoot, the guy who rakes my leaves every year showed up in a mask and wore it all the time he was working.

I don't know how this fucker is spreading, it just is. It's scary out there.

I don't know if we can call all of them assholes. Some probably wear masks but don't forget that about 70 million of our fellow citizens voted for a liar, a con man, who has no morals, who has no interest in serving the people, just how much money he can make as President. I haven't yet got my head around why those that other wise intelligent good people would support and vote for Trump.

My mom was born in 1947 - she remembered going to school to line up and get her shot.

She's truly stunned at the arrogance of people who don't take this seriously in her peer group. And yes - she is in the hospital yet AGAIN (went in yesterday) long after recovering from Covid in the summer. The after effects on seniors are pretty dramatic.

I recovered, more or less, but my mother's best friend died, leaving three small children motherless.

I'm sorry your mom has been sick, and I hope she has a good recovery. I almost said "full recovery," but I think among our age group, that's too much to hope for. Hugs for her (and you).

tuberculosis cases used to be arrested until treated and had negative sputums...really...my mother worked in public health in the 50's , 60's before the drug Rifampin and had several arrested patients she followed in TB sanatoriums...one man stayed in the TB san. for 23 years. Wearing a mask and social distancing is a walk in the park.

She always wore/wears a mask when out. Uses hand sanitizer by the boatload. Socially distances whenever she can. Doesn't eat in restaurants. How the hell did she get it? Her husband isn't nearly as careful. I would have bet money she got it from him. He just got his test results back today...negative. wth??? It requires everybody to be onboard with fighting it by wearing masks, socially distancing, staying home when you don't have to go out. While masks are extremely helpful they are not 100% and if somebody with COVID isn't wearing one they can still pass it on to those who do. Luckily my daughter hasn't had too many symptoms. Her worst one is that she can't smell or taste things. She will be out of quarantine according to the CDC guidelines tomorrow.

no migrant farm workers -> no food. And also poverty - loss of jobs loss of wages, loss of safety nets. Loss of health insurance. People die from these things too.

No, a pandemic didn't occur to me either. But it did occur to Barack and Joe.

I guess the crackdown on illegal immigrants has been more bark than bite-- if they were doing cheap labor. There were some early raids but that seems to have died down lately and especially during the pandemic, I think they realized they needed the labor.

I live in Lexington, KY and I have yet to see or even hear of anyone making a scene (an ass of themselves) regarding wearing a mask here. We are one of those liberal islands surrounded by a sea of anger and fear. I keep hoping I live long enough to finally see these people break the chains and join the human race. But, since I value my ability to breathe, I won't be holding my breath.

there are two employees with sanitizers and extra masks in case folks forget them. I don't know how many they give out, as everyone wears their own into the stores. I've seen maybe one or two people without.
There's a reason I'm not returning to the US anytime soon.

I used to be pretty comfortable, taking the precautions we were. Vancouver Island has been a pocket of low covid numbers, even within the jurisdiction (BC) of the "best"numbers in North America...or so we've been told.

And it's starting to reach a boil here - record daily numbers. DAMN IT! Damn them all!!!
