On Night of Ginsburg's Death, McConnell Pushed Trump to Nominate Amy Coney Barrett

https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/on-night-of-ginsburgs-death-mcconnell-pushed-trump-to-nominate-amy-coney-barrett/?fbclid=IwAR2t6zBw5RcMs0ap_01uVA8w2z0iZnC3Ucr0eGLxZYZjbsO9thBJmwf5oXw

When liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died at age 87, six weeks before the 2020 presidential election, Mitch McConnell wasted no time.

The Senate majority leader, a powerful Republican from Kentucky, quickly reached President Donald Trump on the phone and made his plan clear, a FRONTLINE documentary reports.

“McConnell told [Trump] two things,” Josh Holmes, McConnell’s former chief of staff, told FRONTLINE in the above excerpt from Supreme Revenge: Battle for the Court. “McConnell said, first, I’m going to put out a statement that says we’re going to fill the vacancy. Second, he said, you’ve gotta nominate Amy Coney Barrett.”

It was a very different approach than McConnell had taken four-and-a-half years prior, when he refused to allow the Senate to consider President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, after Justice Antonin Scalia died more than eight months before the 2016 presidential election.

She's who the Federalist Society always had prepared to replace Ginsburg.

Kind of an understatement there. But really, why should the screaming hypocrisy of Republicans bother anyone? It's all a game and they follow the Vince Lombardi rule that winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. So the Supreme Court rules against citizens and in favor of corporate bigotry and discrimination; it's unlikely to affect the reporters at NPR (or anywhere else) directly. If it does, though, too bad. What's really important is corporate bottom lines, and you'll see that in the popular media coverage accorded to enactment of regulations on (for example) the financial industry and the enforcement of laws on the books reining in the worst excesses of corporate America.

But he was actually a liberal Democrat who strongly supported the Kennedys and civil rights!

They blocked Merrick Garland and then installed Gorsch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Court packing is
a way for the GOP/Right Wing Billionaires to keep power despite being part of an ever shrinking
demographic population.

the nominees and then the Repub sens just follow along. This applies to lower level courts on up to Supreme. Repubs dont waste time vetting anyone or making any thoughtful decisions on their own.

Someone that would absolutely make us lose our collective minds and we did. His main objective is to reverse Roe and reverse all of the LGBTQ laws of the past few years. The sooner that old turtle turns over and can't right himself the better.
