You have no idea if that car is paid off, about to be repo'd, borrowed, a company car. Appearances are often deceiving and you have no idea what circumstances affect this person. People's financial situations have turned on a dime this year. This is the kind of crap that Republicans say about people who need assistance. I'm saddened to find that attitude on DU.

At one point my sister, who drove a lot of miles commuting, got a used Mercedes for a great price. The first time she took it in for routine servicing - oil change, etc - it cost her hundreds of dollars without any extras. She promptly traded it in for a smaller car that cost very little to maintain.

I bet it cost you less than $100 to service your Corolla while servicing that Mercedes would be very expensive.

The American Dream!

God, I was a small child during that, but the welfare queen meme stuck and lasted well into the 90s. It was part of the reason we ended up with welfare reform during Clinton.

which is a Mercedes, by the way, I paid half of the cost of the new car price. It had 5,000 miles on it and was 3 years old, still under warranty. Previously barely driven by a little old lady.

I couldn’t have bought even a new Honda for the price I paid.

Also, what everyone else said above.
