(3,379 posts)You have no idea if that car is paid off, about to be repo'd, borrowed, a company car. Appearances are often deceiving and you have no idea what circumstances affect this person. People's financial situations have turned on a dime this year. This is the kind of crap that Republicans say about people who need assistance. I'm saddened to find that attitude on DU.

(34,189 posts)At one point my sister, who drove a lot of miles commuting, got a used Mercedes for a great price. The first time she took it in for routine servicing - oil change, etc - it cost her hundreds of dollars without any extras. She promptly traded it in for a smaller car that cost very little to maintain.
I bet it cost you less than $100 to service your Corolla while servicing that Mercedes would be very expensive.

God, I was a small child during that, but the welfare queen meme stuck and lasted well into the 90s. It was part of the reason we ended up with welfare reform during Clinton.

(16,344 posts)which is a Mercedes, by the way, I paid half of the cost of the new car price. It had 5,000 miles on it and was 3 years old, still under warranty. Previously barely driven by a little old lady.
I couldnt have bought even a new Honda for the price I paid.
Also, what everyone else said above.

(11,212 posts)I have been going there for several years. We supplied turkeys, canned goods and fresh produce to over 100 families. I did not see anything but fellow humans in need. Their need bothers me as well as the selfishness of my past.
