(13,903 posts)1. Trump isn't a conservative or a libertarian, he is a christofascist...
his base largely christofascist theocrats intent on install a christian theocracy in this country.
Establishment conservatism and the christofascist base have swapped positions in this country.
Where the fascists were once marginalized now the establishment cons are.

Isn't it always the way?
Socialist "revolutions" always end up having to be imposed and maintained by authoritarian force, and no group's more eager to make that work than RW authoritarian conservatives determined to control the spoils.
And of course, the shift from far left to far right is much less than a two-step for the many revolutionaries who are both. Whatever is called for by the moment.
The thought of anticapitalism conservatives made me throw that in. Both conservative personality and doctrine believe in/need hierarchical societies and control of wealth and power, and belief in a natural order is baked into cultures and religions over millennia -- deserving people naturally get more, less deserving get less, and undeserving need to be punished to help them be better. Universalist philosophies are normally a very poor fit with conservative personality. But they can be adopted by those described above.
