Biden: I believe "grim season of division" will give way to unity

Where does Joe Biden get this sense of optimism?

He served front and center through eight years of the Obama presidency and the Republicans did nothing but obstruct the entire time.

If Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz weren't all re-elected, maybe there would be hope that Biden could achieve some sort of detente, at the very least. But with those malicious turds among the ranks, I can't imagine the Republicans ever being open to compromise.

Anyone else see the possibility?

How about something more like, "We have deep divisions in this country & I hope the republicans in congress will work with their democratic colleagues and my administration to show the American people that their elected representatives work for everybody."

After eight years of McConnell's obstructionism during Obama's terms, & the hate & vitriol from the right the past four years, I'm surprised to hear Biden say this.

the low-information flibberdigibbets who voted for Trump twice, and don't want to be told they're racists or fascists, or have to think much at all.

the low-information flibberdigibbets who couldn't be bothered to vote, and want to hear anodyne platitudes.

there are millions and millions of these "folks" who we need in 2022, 2024, 2026, etc. they need to be coddled and mollified.

this is just the way it works and always has. Biden knows it.

with the Obama administration. Clear evidence and Republican's OWN WORDS that they will do everything to obstruct. Instead of pretending there are possibilities, and ignoring laws, procedures and rules being broken, I would rather actually fuckin address reality so solutions can be found.

The odds of him suddenly succumbing to Joe's charm and deciding to play ball are 0 and saying otherwise just makes Biden look out of touch with reality.

the runoff election in Georgia has been certified. Anyone who’s ever dealt with a wasp nest knows the best time to spray is when they have quietly settled in for the night. Any other time just pisses off the ones you didn’t kill leaving them free to nail you. He’s played politics for a long time. Eyes on the prize, the Senate.

It's early and I'm willing to give him some time to try things his way. It could be his way of trying to corner them. With such a closely divided senate, he doesn't have to gain the cooperation of many GOP senators in order to corner McConnell.

1. Biden genuinely believes he can get them to work with him and compromise on some things, like it once was in the senate.

Or

2. He wishes that were true, knows it’s not, and is preaching unity while knowing he’s going to do some things likely via E.O. that some people may not like but are for the greater good, and he wants to be on record as being the first to offer an olive branch before he takes those steps.
