A friend reminded me today of this quote, and I thought, exactly. The going has indeed gotten weird, and the weird have gotten going.

(16,616 posts)I think what he was getting at is that anxiety and being backed into a corner stimulates survival instincts, and anger coupled with creativity that moves people who otherwise not do much to take action.
Stress triggers ingenuity.
But others will certainly have different interpretations.
I know that I got pushed by this administration into dropping almost every normal aspect of my life to just immerse myself in this chaos, rather than get paralyzed by it. But at times, I have felt paralyzed too. But luckily, those moments passed.
During our last fundraiser, I posted that quote twice on "stickies". It really is a quote that speaks to me for some reason. I miss Hunter S. Thompson and wonder what he would think about the last four years.

(2,113 posts)The weird have definitely turned pro these days. I think I was reminded of that quote because of an image of "America's Mayor" having a hissy fit.

(3,522 posts)of himself as a professional journalist. He single handedly birthed the concept of gonzo journalism, the idea of drug fueled rantings being submitted as copy and inserting himself into the story, producing such amazing works as Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail and Vegas. The Nixon years were indeed seriously weird, and Hunter used his own weirdness to document the times.
