Watching The Reagans Part II on Showtime & what pops up at the end? Cronkite mocking Biden.

It was an interesting scene. I know they put it in there because of what has just happened. But anyway, if you haven't watched The Reagans on Showtime, do. It's a pretty damn good look at just how manipulative Nancy and Ronald were. Chapter II mostly focuses on Reagan's rightwing march and his play for the racist vote.

It ends with Election Night 1980 on CBS discussing his landslide.

Cronkite turns to the panel and asks who the Democrats look to now. Obviously since the party is in shatters.

Jeff Greenfield (yes, the guy who's still around), mentions Joe Biden as a young, impressive senator from Delaware.

Cronkite then says, "Yeah. Okay." and laughs at the thought.

40 years later and here we are.

From the opening, seeing a young Trent Lott brought those years back to me with the force of a kick in the stomach.

Finally watched it all. Sickening. All of it came back in a rush.

Caught the Biden remark. Said guess Joe got the last laugh.

3. Really shows there isn't a lick of difference between Trump and Reagan.

And every right-winger out there and their revisionist history who pretends Reagan would be appalled with Trump are lying. Trump's suburban attack throughout the 2020 campaign was ripped right from the Reagan playbook.

It's a shame Jimmy Carter had to lose to that man.

Neither had any substance. Both horrible human beings.

7. True. But I was speaking more to their venues of birth. Scripted from movies. Scripted from TV.

Reagan would give speeches filled with the blurring of what actually happened verses some movie of what Reagan claimed happened.

His vision of America that came from multiple movie collages pressed together to form a patriotic codswallop narrative. Sweeping, grandiose, big screen flash.

But he spoke like it actually happened.

Trump is all about optics and scripts his performances like a Reality TV show. Designed to get maximum response from maximum drama. All done in only an hour - with new episodes coming every week. His tweets were like commercials for his next episode.
