Thank-you for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, This is the best Thanksgiving in four years!
Next year will be even better when Covid19 is under control.

(58,785 posts)in a red area in these crazy times without having the reassurance of a community like this. No, the pods haven't taken over everywhere, and not every "decent" person is on their way to becoming full fascist and making excuses for torturing children.

(57,010 posts)... entertaining. And my ultra RW/Covid-19 denying youngest brother told my nephew he was sending him over to our house because he was sounding too much like us. So there are small victories to savor every day.
I do my very best to be thankful in all things, there's blessing concealed in almost anything.
We are thinking of moving to Cleveland, though.

(31,373 posts)I had a conversation some years ago at the gas pumps with a guy who had Ohio plates on his car. He was so happy to be moving from Cleveland to Chapel Hill (NC).
Why Cleveland?

... we don't want to own a home anymore with all the useless possessions that our kids will have to deal with when the inevitable happens.
We want to live at the Terminal Tower which used to be where my grandfather had his office when he was Chief Light and Signal Engineer of the Nickle Plate RR and then the Norfolk and Western RR. I'm hoping one of the conversions is his office where I spent a lot of Saturday mornings overlooking Public Square, where years later as a member of the Mobilization Against the War I was in my first protests.
The farmers market is five or six blocks away and the Westside Farmer's Market is a fifteen-minute bus ride. Amtrak, Rapid Transit, and city buses operate out of the Tower. The Westside Market is in my old neighborhood.

I'm kind of emotionally involved.
Our oldest son lives about thirty miles away in Ravenna, and I have friends and other family all around I've stayed in touch with these last forty or so years.
Snow doesn't bother me and if I didn't want to get into snow I actually wouldn't have to leave the Tower. And VA is about a half hour Rapid ride.
And I can't afford the Asheville area. One of my family was John Turner Morehead, so it'd be a sort of homecoming, too.

(4,380 posts)I grew up there, too, (East Side) but left in the late 80s to chase jobs and shuttle kids to college all around the state. Just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary last Saturday. It was a treat to see OSU Buckeyes win as they did on that day too! Didn't know they converted office space to apartments in the Terminal Tower. Loved watching the storms come in over Lake Erie from our first 6th floor apartment near South Chagrin Reservation. DH started out as a public servant at City Hall; Dad spent his working life in the Ohio Bell Bldg, and I worked on the Square and at the late Galleria bldg. Back then we spent a lot of hours at Headlands beach; out 1st home was minutes from the shore. Left and have been landlocked ever since...
I think your plan is wonderful!

(57,010 posts)... Club around 1954. I'm a near Westy, Euclid Beach Park was the greatest. A lot of those rides went to Cedar Point, Geauga Lake Park, and the Humphreys opened up another park with some of the old rides at Streetsboro, north of Kent State.
It's great riding rides I was on almost 65 years ago, especially the racing carousel at Cedar Point.
Cleveland is a good town and NE Ohio is a gem.
We're pretty well set on getting there.

(31,373 posts)I've been in a 1029 sq ft apartment with floor to ceiling windows (no fireplace!) on the 17th floor of a high rise. Great lifestyle, until COVID. I'm leaving downtown where I walked to everything for a small house with a courtyard. I suspect it's going to be late next year before vaccines are rolled out to most of us.
Good luck with the move and finding the apartment you want.

We all have to be thankful for the outcome of this past election and although it will not be a walk in the park, at least we will no longer have the knee-jerk lunatic "govern-by-tweet" administration that we currently have.
Hope you and your family and everyone else on DU has a wonderful Thanksgiving and stay safe!!!
