I will not be celebrating a day of thanksgiving, I will be worrying all day and for weeks to come. They expect a large spike of cases in the next 3 weeks.
Can't get this out of my mind. Keep safe everyone. Please wear your masks, social distance and keep close to home.

It is funny. K... So there are flavors I like more than others in the dish... So I am making my second batch to compensate. All experimental, but so yum, and then I individually wrp servings to freeze and eat later. Anyway, casserole dish.
I am crock potting 4 lrg breasts, then going to roughly cut up, shred.
13 x 13.
first layer chicken.
spread biggish cubes of ham
16 oz swiss. 1/2 cut in biggish cubes.
dollops and more of prepared hollandaise sauce, generous. (I didn't put enough on first time but I really like it. I used two packets last time, using three packets this time. See how much I use, but yum) *3 was too much, so judgment call.
Repeat layers
chicken
ham
swiss
Hollandaise
Cook 350 for an hour or less
All made up so make yours up with a base.
Much easier than rolling up individual and I get more of the yummy flavors rather than mostly chicken.

Happy Safe Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

(12,356 posts)bird is in the oven.
We usually have few leftovers, but I guess that's one good thing about not having a house full this year. Lots of turkey soup this winter, my sister's favorite.

(5,914 posts)a friend's son snagged a 31 pounder last year. I spatchcocked it (cut it in half) and put half on each rack of the smoker. I figured 13 minutes/lb, which turned out to be WAY too long. Bird was done perfectly in about 3 hours, to the point that the meat is falling off the bones and very tasty/juicy. 3 hours for a 31 pound turkey, with a dry brine then just a sage rub. Smoked with cherry wood chips at 220 degrees.
I'll cut off a chunk for the two of us and we'll take the rest over to the friend's house. We usually spend all holidays together, but this year we'll do it safely so we can enjoy future holidays together.

My sons live out of state, and the only other relative we (used to) see are alone in their house 60 miles away.
Maybe next year.

(195 posts)Ive got a pumpkin pie in the oven which will follow cheddar cheese biscuits, a farro salad, braised leeks and sweet potato cakes, all this with a vegetarian son in mind. Its fun to shake up traditions a bit - well, quite a bit.
I feel very fortunate to have so many things to be thankful for. Warm wishes to all. Stay save.

Usually this is a big bash day for my extended family, a feast prepared by my sister and enjoyed by 20-30 wonderful and interesting people.
This year, everyone agreed.
It's not gonna kill anyone to skip a year.
It just may kill someone if we don't skip a year.

(24,906 posts)We buy a few whole turkeys a year and thaw them the cut them into quarters and refreeze. Today we are having a leg/thigh quarter and a small breast roast. We were going to have just the leg and thigh but we decided to deliver dinner to a few elderly gentlemen who live next to us in the mobile home park so we picked up the breast roast.

(2,937 posts)we have always chosen to have Thanksgiving dinner just the two of us (we don't have kids). Candlelight, nice music, good china and silver, and a good meal. Never have regretted doing it that way. And now many more people are doing it our way this Thanksgiving! You may actually like the peacefulness of it!

(25,078 posts)Simple turkey dinner: turkey breast, sweet potato, roasted Brussel sprouts and a homemade pumpkin pie.
We Zoomed with our families earlier this afternoon and now there's football on the TV.
It's not the Thanksgiving we had hoped for but we have much to be grateful for so it's not a bad day.

And -- like many/most other Boomers -- I recall a different connotation for the word "doobie." Hey, if it's legal where you live and you are a responsible THC user, more power to you. Otherwise, please be discrete. And careful.
Unless, of course, this was a reference to the band, the Doobie Brothers, which kinda' circles back to the non-Romper Room reference.

(59,900 posts)really enjoyed this one. It was calm and leisurely, we had a lot of laughs and great food.
Usually I start setting it up three weeks before so I can get everything done around my work schedule. And usually I clean up and dismantle tables etc for days after. Today, I'll take a nice walk, watch a movie, read a book!
This might catch on!
