Giuliani tells Pennsylvania legislators they can override popular vote

Crystal Hill 18 hrs ago

Speaking to an occasionally raucous but mostly disgruntled panel of Pennsylvania Republicans, President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and his campaign counsel Jenna Ellis on Wednesday floated the idea that the state Legislature could decide on its own to give Pennsylvania’s 20 Electoral College votes to Trump, despite the state’s certifying that Joe Biden won the Nov. 3 election in the state ...

The session was billed as a hearing, but it took place at the Wyndham Hotel in Gettysburg, Pa., not in the state capitol in Harrisburg, and witnesses — including self-described data experts and amateur statisticians, Republican observers during the ballot-counting process, and a few voters who reported suspicious activities when they cast their ballots — were not sworn in ...

“You could call for a special election,” Ellis said ...

The position that legislators can”reclaim” the authority to appoint electors after an election was rejected in Bush v Gore and the recent UNANIMOUS decision that electors MUST be faithful further reinforces this.

Maybe I'm a pessimist here, but I won't breathe a sigh of relief until all electors have voted for Joe Biden, pushing him over 270. I say that because we're dealing with the weasel, Teflon Trump. This man will buy people off, threaten people, quite possibly even have them killed - just to ensure he doesn't "lose."

It is certainly unlikely that he'll steal this election back, but it's not impossible. His cult following is certainly foaming at the mouth and regularly claim that he has won, despite having no evidence to back up those assertions and a plethora of evidence to support the opposite.

But the Kool-Aid is strong with these folks and the more dog and pony shows they put on in front of the camera, the harder these people dig in their heels.

Even if Trump isn't successful, and he probably won't be, these shenanigans are doing actual damage to our Democratic processes and this damage MUST be addressed by Biden and we have to put safeguards in place to prevent it from happening again.

First and foremost, we MUST join every other industrialized nation in saying "no" to electronic voting machines. They ARE hackable, as has been proven time and again. The fact that they are hackable, whether likely to be hacked or not, will always produce a principle of uncertainty that hangs over every election, so this should be the first thing we do - go to paper ballots.

I'm optimistic that Trump won't succeed in his death throe attempt to overturn the will of the people, but I also realize that Trump has done so many things that I would never have believed a President could do and get away with, so I look forward to the electors finally placing their votes for their candidate so we can put this mess behind us and bandage up our injured representative democracy.

"Steal the election" is probably how I should have worded it.

It's been a full Thanksgiving later and I'm not even certain why I added 'back'.

Thanks for pointing it out, though I assume the intent of my post was still fairly clear.
