So, I need to vent

Yeah, there are casualties of the MAGA.

I lost an important member of my family today. Hes alive and well, I suppose, yet he unfriended me on Facebook. Not just unfriended, but blocked

This was a cousin who I thought, hung the moon. He fixed my shortwave radio as a child at my grandmother's house in central Oklahoma. It was this moment that i knew that i wanted to be an electronics technician; I wanted the skills he had. He always had the best country music in his tape collection. Christ he took my brother and I to see 3D science fiction movie in 1982/83 ( I would appreciate some help with this as I cant remember the name of the flick, it was a space adventure) at the Hornbeck Theater in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

I know that we disagreed on politics, yet however, this person took things to far. Once trump got into power it was all or nothing.

Well here we are: this cousin is 62 and I'm 47. This person has blocked me as if I dont exist. A person who was so instrumental to my younger years, a person I looked up to. I suppose that's the part that hurts the worst.

Reagan started this bullshit with him in the1980s. I saw it consume him and change him.

Its vile what these people have done to obtain power.

Thanks for letting me rant...

It's very difficult to understand and deeply sad how many families have been torn apart by this evil orange man.

One note - you might want to edit and change the word "detrimental" to "instrumental". From your story, I think that's the right word.

And, yes, it started with Reagan. 40 years of their vileness has brought us to our second civil war. To broken families and friendships. It’s tragic.

And all for what? Some altruism? No. All so the 1% can be rich at the expense of the rest of us.

I remember driving from Pittsburgh to Shawnee in 1974 to spend Thanksgiving with friends who had just moved there. Nixon had just been driven out by Watergate and the US was settling in rather well, until I was just outside Shawnee and saw a huge billboard that said "GOD BLESS PRESIDENT NIXON!"
That was my introduction to Oklahoma politics.

was so distraught over a black man in the White House that she hung up on me. I did not call her back and it stayed that way for 6 years. Then, over a year ago, she called and, like a fool, I spoke with her. We agreed to not discuss politics but she still sneaks some crap in once in awhile. Bottom line is I wish I hadn't started speaking with her again. I know who she is (A Racist) so I just can't like or respect her anymore. I call her as little as I can and sometimes don't answer her calls. I should've left it like it was.

But I can't deal with the Trump and COVID stuff.
I just cannot.

This happened.

What DT & GOP has done is beyond disgusting. They have played to the worst aspects of human nature to get power and imposed their dogmas. It’s been done for thousands of years by bad actors all through history but it’s a two way street. The DT supporters we see spewing the hatred and violence did not just suddenly become that way 4 yrs ago...they have always been that way. DT / GOP / Right wing radio / FOX just made them feel they could be open with it.

This is a generational thing and it going to take several more generations to fix.

I am not a gay Texan but I have known many of them. Both gay and Texan. To clarify I am a Texan, as in born in Texas and currently living here. Honestly the latter was a mistake, but I don't want to burden you with my mistakes. I'll just leave it at I am so sorry.

I am sorry that your cousin was turned by Trump and his evil party. It is really difficult to lose family connections because of politics, My own mother voted for him twice and has mostly bought into the cult.

I tell myself that I may not be able to change how she thinks, but I can remain open to her some day coming around and backing away from the dark side. In the end, that's all we have - how we allow ourselves to react to things beyond our control.

I've had to block several family members that decided to call my president (President Obama) a Muslim, the anti-christ and everything else in between. They also pick and choose what bible verses they want to follow. They also parrot right wing lies that are easily debunked and than they get more angry.

I got fed up fairly quickly and took out the trash. I have better things to do than to deal with toxic people because life is too short.

I'm sorry that the this division is still happening to families. Hugs to you.
