(CNN)A new map of the Milky Way by Japanese space experts has put Earth 2,000 light years closer to the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy.
This map has suggested that the center of the Milky Way, and the black hole which sits there, is located 25,800 light-years from Earth. This is closer than the official value of 27,700 light-years adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 1985, the National Observatory of Japan said.
What's more, according to the map, our solar system is traveling at 227 kilometers per second as it orbits around the galactic center -- this is faster than the official value of 220 kilometers per second, the release added.

(3,334 posts)And every black hole in our universe contains a new universe. And every black hole in these universes contains a new universe and on and on and on.

(36,631 posts)A black hole is the seed in the center of every galaxy. It drives the spin and collection. It's also the seed of the eventual destruction of the galaxy it forms.

(2,328 posts)..of how close we are to the center of our galaxy was off by about 7%. This is scientifically significant, in that it refines our knowledge about our universe. But it really doesnt change anything.

(1,789 posts)The Milky Way and surrounding galaxies are all moving at 600 km per second toward something they call the "Great Attractor". They are not sure exactly what it is, only that its existence is implied by the motion itself. It is separate from the motion away from other galaxies due to the expansion of the universe.
So to review all of one person's movements, there is the crawling around a small area of the Earth's surface, which spins around its center with the planet going around the Sun, which goes around the galaxy which is hauling ass toward who knows where.
