They want to call us the Democrat Party? Lets call them Extremists.
They want to call us socialists? Let's repeat they want to destroy Social Security and Medicare.
They want to call us tax and spenders? Let's call them servants of Wall Street.
They want to call us elites? Let's call them book burners.
Well, you get the idea. They've been defining us for years. Their pundits, their elected members, their propaganda mills never stop using the same words over and over again until they become "reality" in the minds of many.
Well, it's payback time. It's a given that Dems don't march in "goose-step" like Republicans, but we've got to work together on framing them the way in which they've spent decades labeling us. It's a really shitty game. But it works only if we all do it every time we speak of them..
I really don't have any idea how you get a project like this rolling. But evidently, Republicans do. And either we get into this game, or we'll go on getting fucked forever. Until we start fightying back, we will be the ones walking around with whatever labels they want to hang on us.

(35,454 posts)The cons and trump regime are trying to change how some states execute those who have been given a death sentence. The new options will include firing squad, electrocution and death by poisonous gas. You know...just like the nazis,

(21,630 posts)They'd legalize domestic torture if they could (and they might have in a 2nd Chump term, what with their new 6-3 SCOTUS majority).

(58,649 posts)state executions are controlled by the states.
Trump's EO will only affect federal executions. He's trying to put it on the fast track, I guess so he can brag about how many criminals he killed while in office.
Congress should pass a law eliminating the death penalty.

(35,454 posts)didn't hear which state lawmakers are pushing this. I agree about the death penalty and maybe they should try again as now there are Catholics on the SC who are very rigid. I wonder what Justice Barrett thinks of the rebuke from the pope regarding covid and so called freedoms.

(21,630 posts)But having lived in Mississippi in the '80s and '90s, it doesn't surprise me that they completely remade themselves this way.
The fervor for adopting out-and-out fascism among 50% of GOP voters there was intense and palpable.
"Bush was just too nice," they assured themselves after Clinton won in '92 - which is when the fascist shift in the GOP really began to snowball, as you know.
With Lumpball and Faux News leading the way.

(4,612 posts)Republicans are able to do this because they've taken losing money in media and marketing as acceptable in the grand scheme of things, and they've kept at it even while being called crazy (which they are) and being ostracized. They've also invited in enemies of the US to amplify the messaging and weaken our democratic values.

(58,785 posts)Also their counterparts on the far left. No coincidence that many ruthless fascists are also, or previously were, socialists as well. Just check out Mussolini's or Hungary's Viktor Orban's ideology; their parliament now serves him and recently voted to allow him to rule by decree and to arrest people who object. The U.S. held on November 3, but Hungary is no longer a democracy ruled of, by and for the people.
We have to admit that framing arguments for those who believe as those committed to do is not going to affect either extremist group. Truth and facts only make people who support extremist leaders and illiberal cultural goals double down on their beliefs. On both sides, fostered by populist leaders, those beliefs are that liberalism (the Democratic Party in the U.S.) and thus democratic elections are destroying their country and that only the ruthless imposition of their virtuous RW or LW beliefs on all will save them.

They're literal fascists, but you don't see them going around trying to sell themselves as Republican Fascists.
