Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt appears that the Governors, Secretarys of State, and State Legislatures have saved our democracy.
And many of them are Republicans.
Not since the days of Goebel has anyone seen a propagandist with the brazen gall of Rudy Guiliani.
He appeared before some of the Arizona State Legislature and was permitted to say all sorts of made-up crapola that he would not dare to say in court. Because he understands when he is under oath.
He told them that the Governor of Arizona would not meet with him. He was an envoy of Donald J Trump.
At almost the same time, Governor Ducey was signing the certification papers for the election in Arizona, declaring Mark Kelly the winner in the Senate race and Joe Biden the winner in the Presidential race. The law in Arizona required Martha McSally to step down on a specific day and the Governor had no choice but to follow the law.
Trump was watching the signing on TV and called the Governor. The Governor had the phone on "vibrate" and laid it aside. If the sound had been on, it would have played "Hail to the Chief", to let him know the call was from the White House. That seems to be the official explanation?
But, from a distance, it appears that there are a few Republicans that are willing to stand up for our country, our Constitution, and our Democracy. They are not part of the cabal of hypocrites in the Republican Party now occupying Washington, DC.
Let us hope that Donald Trump gets the message.

(62,387 posts)We could clearly hear the Ducey phone playing "Hail to the Chief." So it was definitely Benedict Donald's call he ignored.

They didn't do anything more special than what Governors and other officials in most other states do .

(18,486 posts)Democratic voters - especially black and brown ones - busted their butts to make it happen, yet here we are throwing flowers at a handful of white Republicans because they just did their damned jobs.

(111,056 posts)It is not who votes - it is who counts the votes. Never more true than in this election. Yes, if a few Republicans stand up, they should be recognized, in my opinion.

(32,599 posts)... but the GOP leaders still fear his mean tweets. Chump's tweets are still calling up the rabid base at every opportunity. This won't change until he is finally FINALLY banned from Twitter.

But I'm not a Twitter user, so what do I know?

(18,973 posts)Trump is no longer trying to win in 2020, everything going on right now is for 2024. The GOP is now the party of trump and Trump is making their number 1 issue to question the validity of our Democracy. The system held this time, but the assault on it has just begun. States with Republican control will now start passing crazy laws to allow them to overrule the vote. Get ready for a fight, we won round 1 and this goes 15 rounds.

(4,533 posts)I bet some Republicans will cooperate on a big infrastructure bill. Republican governors will be glad to get federal money to do delayed maintenance on bridges, to have local firms working on an upgraded electrical grid system. Most Republicans want clean energy.
