We should impeach

And name every crime we think Trump may have committed.

Not to remove him, but to prevent a pardon. The constitution explicitly carves out cases of impeachment when defining presidential pardon powers

They could still argue that the pardon doesn't apply to impeachment but on DoJ proseuctions....but thats something we could fight.

We'd pay no political price for it. Just impeach and never send it to the senate.

that would be stupid and ensure a government shutdown. Enough people have lost their jobs already. Lets instead document everything and prosecute after january 20th when we have a working justice department again.

Someone who is impeached can't have the impeachment overturned via a pardon. But that doesn't mean the person who was impeached can't be charged with criminal offenses and pardoned for those.

Clinton was impeached, but his pardons held up.

If you want to fight, vote on the lower levels. School board, dogcatcher, county board of supervisors.

Think globally; act locally.

As a tool to either keep Trump from pardoning himself or to fight that pardon later.

It has nothing to do with anything else. Its about doing what we can to prevent him pardoning himself. Even if it's just making it so that he can't admit he's guilty by taking the pardon.

The Constitution doesn't bar a president from granting problems. It simply prohibits him from pardoning anyone from being impeached.

Lets try to act like we have faith in the criminal justice system to deal with him in an appropriate way. It would be nice if we could try to find some way to govern like adults. Impeaching Trump in the last six weeks of his reign makes no sense.

Trump will get his.

Can that be used as evidence in state court? He can’t take the 5th either but will do doubt lie anyway.

They need to get hold of the complete Mueller Report.

I’m obviously no lawyer, lol.

Give up his 5th rights in cases that he pardons himself for.

That would mean he could be called to testify in federal court and have to tell the truth. If he lies he can be charged with perjury.

In Federal Court, the question referred to state courts.

There he could take the 5th and a Federal pardon would be ruled inadmissible as evidence of guilt.
