10. Rehabilitating "socialism" is an impossible goal

First, "socialism" is a label that applies to a vast number of political economic theories. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Socialism

Second, it has been applied to many political parties and countries in the past, ranging from the National Socialist German Workers' Party to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The official political system of China is "socialism with Chinese characteristics".

Third, it is a relatively ancient label, dating from the early to mid-1800s. Thus, it has been subjected to roughly 200 years of anti-socialist propaganda that have securely equated "socialism = bad" in the public mind in America.
