It seems that there are some Republicans separating themselves from Trump now that it is clear that he is on his way out. I wonder what the Post Trump Era will be like in regards to the Republican Party. Will there be more Trump types, or will more moderate Repubs like Mitt Romney take control? I would rather see anti-Trump moderates prevail instead of Trump clones. What do you think? Should we want more moderate Repubs like Kascich and Romney as opponents, or does it not matter? I would like to see Trump and his supporters disappear.

(16,616 posts)The question is how much do anti-Trump Republicans care about the sought-after Trump base? It really is a question I can't answer. Also, generally, what becomes of the Trump base? How valuable are they really to the GOP? Will they disperse? Do Republicans sincerely believe Trump will run again in 2024? Is that feasible or possible, given his rapid physical and cognitive decline?
I keep thinking about Berlusconi in Italy, how scandal and indictments would carry him away from positions of power and how he would always return, his followers intact, no matter how disgraced he became. That fucker is 84 years old, and he's been a dangerous, anti-Democratic and destructive fixture of Italian politics since the early 90s.

(816 posts)The best way to keep the likes of them from slithering out from under their rocks and trying to destroy democracy again is to prosecute this existing criminal organization to the fullest extent of the law. Make them pay for the damage they've done. They need to be crushed - as in heel to the throat. I know some here don't want to go down that road, but we must. It's imperative if we want this nation to remain a republic.
